Rant about Prius driver ignorance shown here

I think that this shows exactly what is wrong with people here in America. First off, this woman has the audacity to come over and yell at this man and his family completely unprovoked. My favorite part of this though is that the truck is clearly a diesel, which is FAR more efficient than gasoline for a truck of that size. In fact diesel is the most practical and efficient application for a large truck because it offers the torque for any job the truck needs to do while sipping gas by comparison to a similar gasoline application. You simply cannot have a puny little Prius hybrid setup in a full size truck meant to tow a few thousand pounds. This lady’s ignorance is just appalling on so many levels because she also seems to think here Prius is blameless for any pollution whatsoever.
It is fools like her, sadly widespread around the country, who know nothing at all other than what they hear on the news, who are ruining the auto industry and our country as a whole. These people provide a large demand for half-assed “Green” attempts that are marketed as the saviors of the world. In reality, all they is doing is holding up the development of new technology that is actually progressive (like hydrogen or battery development). I’m sorry to ruin anyone’s view of their Prius as cutting-edge, but all it does is mix two technologies that were invented in the late 1800s, meaning it is nothing new or revolutionary at all. Yes, you will get better fuel economy than a normal gasoline setup, but you won’t get better mileage than most, similarly sized diesel setups seen in Europe and elsewhere in the world. On top of this, the environmental harm done in the disposal process of the special batteries used in hybrid cars will surpass the harm done by any normal gasoline car from its emissions. So, for any Prius driver to pull a stunt like this to someone who is driving a diesel, just shows how stupid some people really are. It is quite sad and I hope people will wake up sometime soon, but unfortunately, I am not optimistic.

I wish you hadn’t made me watch this… now my blood pressure is up and I almost put a hole in my computer screen. Infuriating. But as to your commentary, AMEN. And you didn’t even get into the harm done to the environment during the manufacturing process. I’m no environmentalist, its the ‘green’ hypocrisy that is so angering.
Nick has it nailed down. They also are a green problem, when the battery dies, or is damaged or destroyed in a car crash. First responders must now take special training, if they have to deal with a prius, or volt, because of shock hazzard. These batteries are made from many enviromentally bad parts and chemicals. Not easily recycled or disposed of. Another scam from the enviro gores.
I drive a Prius for the gas mileage (55mpg avg with my driving habits) that I got for $8000 from Copart. Works great, drives great, pays for itself in savings in two years compared to my old truck.
But I also need a truck because I’m starting a business flipping houses and managing my rental properties. This lady is really bitter and has some sort of psychological superiority complex.
Look, different vehicles are needed for different jobs. If that lady didn’t like that guy’s exhaust, all she needs to do is move away, or at least be respectful. But we didn’t see what led up to this, so it’s possible that the driver of the truck might have done something to agitate her before he started filming.
