Test Driven: Scion FRS Automatic, Nick’s Impressions

I was able to take a short drive in an Automatic Scion FRS recently. The drive was kept brief because I had asked for a manual, and was “just getting a feel for it so I could see if I wanted to order a manual”. Obviously this was not an ideal situation for a review but it did get me some seat time in this hot new car that is selling off the shelves, so I took what I could get for the time being. What follows are my first impressions on the Scion FRS, expect a full fledged review once I am able to get my hands on one with a clutch pedal for a decent amount of time.     Read the rest of this entry »

Group B rally documentary

This is a great documentary on Group B rallying and the cars that made it so great. This is so far the epitome of rally racing, and I strongly suggest anyone who loves rally, and has some time to kill, give this a watch. Enjoy

Test Driven: 2012 VW Beetle Turbo vs 2012 VW GTI

Beetle Turbo vs GTI

I first saw the new VW Beetle up close at the New York International Autoshow this past year. I was very excited to see that the new version had become more of a sporting machine and less of a decorated flowerpot. On the surface the Beetle is on the same chassis as the Golf, and the one I was interested in, the Beetle Turbo, basically has the same mechanics as the famed GTI. This made me wonder how similar they really were to each other because I know VW would not want to steal sales from themselves. I decided to go try them both out back to back and compare.   Read the rest of this entry »

The Chrysler-Lancia Connection needs to be reviewed.

There's one thing to separate this from the 300: The badge. The 300 is a great full-size car, but Lancia deserves better than an American transplant.

If there is one brand that does the best job of no longer resembling its roots, it is Lancia.  Since the death of the Delta Integrale in the early Nineties, Lancia hasn’t really had a halo car, and has not been much more than a Fiat offshoot.  Since Chrysler has come under the Fiat banner, Sergio Marchionne has announced a partnership between Chrysler and Lancia. Test Driven: Chrysler 200

Chrysler 200 (Front)

All things considered, Chrysler was probably the worst choice of the entire midsize car field for the past couple of years.  Thanks to a multitude of bad qualities, such as frumpy styling, a rental-spec interior, and cringeworthy driving dynamics, the Sebring, and its Dodge Avenger brother, was one of the most hated cars in the segment.  Jeremy Clarkson, for example, doesn’t usually hold back when he finds things wrong with a car, but when he ranked the Sebring Convertible as his least favorite of 2008, clearly, something was wrong.  So, Chrysler went back to the drawing board with a dull pencil and not a lot of outright cash, and the result is the red sedan you see above. Chrysler 200: Making Do with What You Have.

Chrysler 200 (Front)

It’s no secret that Chrysler’s last entry into the midsize car market was quite simply a car best left to rental lots.  The last Sebring is a car that needs no introduction, because it does not deserve one (to be kind).  However, the Chrysler 200, its replacement, is made from the same pieces, but seems to be a much better whole.  So, what’s the story?
