Why young people aren’t buying cars, debunking the hysteria

There has been tons of talk lately about young people, or “millennials”, and their lack of interest in cars. This summer I was working on some aspects of the Chevy Spark launch, and all we talked about was how to make the car appeal to fictional young people whom nobody has ever met. As an actual member of the “millennial generation” I can tell you that this is all extremely frustrating; a bunch of idiotic older people trying to read all sorts of fantastical reasons into an answer that is really quite simple. Now, I am obviously a car enthusiast so my own tastes are not representative of my whole generation, however many of my friends fit the norm much better. I will try and make things clear, from the perspective of someone who is actually a part of the generation in question, and not some foolish marketing person in a panic.   Read the rest of this entry »

Jalopnik: Small Vans for Gen-Y

I don’t normally like to repost articles without attaching my own opinion on here, but this article just posted on Jalopnik hits the nail on the head I think. I spent my whole summer working on the PR for the Chevy Spark, and the talk was about how to get young people interested in cars. I was a huge fan of the VW Bulli when the concept was released, and I still think it would be quite successful. Give this article a read and see what you think.

Yes, this is a real Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato

Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato

At a recent cruise night in Hopewell, NJ I noticed this extremely rare machine in the garage of Steel Wings. This DB4 GT Zagato, one of just 19 remaining I’m told, is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $8-10 million; although the current owner has supposedly turned down offers of far greater amounts. Being friendly with the people at Steel Wings, I was allowed the privilege of accessing the car for some photos (thanks again Ed). During the cruise night event, they raised the Aston up on the lift so it would be visible through the window in the showroom. The insurance risk to display the car outside would’ve been far too much, but the car was enjoyed be everyone nonetheless. Seeing this car in person is nothing short of a breathtaking experience, it is surely among the most beautiful cars of its time. More below…

Visit to the Nurburgring: 24hrs preparation gallery

This was my first visit to the legendary Nurburgring. As it happened I was there during the week leading up to the Nurburgring 24 hours, so the track was closed to the public for laps (next time I will do that). However this did mean that the paddock was full of race cars being prepped for the big race. We also wound up having a private tour of the facilities because we were the only members of the tour who spoke english. The race itself will have just finished when this is posted. Enjoy the gallery.     Read the rest of this entry »

Some thoughts on the past year’s sales.

Once again, I give you the bestselling vehicle in America--the Ford F-150.

On January 3rd, all the sales results for each major car brand sold in the United States were made public for the month of December, and consequently, the entire previous year.  For the most part, 2011 was an excellent year for sales in the auto industry, a big step in the right direction since the turmoil of 2009.  There were of course, some nasty issues that clearly affected sales across the board, but this year, only a select few CEOs should really need a drink today.  So, let’s take a look at these numbers and see what falls out of the tree. How the cars of Forza Motorsport 4 are made

Here is a look inside the process of making a car as realistic as possible in the virtual world of Forza Motorsport. As an avid Forza player myself I found this very cool. Enjoy.

Spotted! Sunday afternoon out, Lambertville NJ

Original Shelby Mustang GT500

Went out to Lambertville, NJ for Sunday brunch with my family. It was 50 degrees outside in January, so I figured I’d bring my camera to catch any cool cars running around. The Lambertville/New Hope area always has some solid cars around, here’s what I saw today.     Read the rest of this entry »

Cars 101: “Certified Pre-Owned”

We got a cah for every-body! Note: These are the guys you don't go to.

When I was a little kid, there were two different ways to buy a car.  One would either buy new, or buy used.  For the most part, the path of buying used was a spread of options, ranging from buying a used car at a new car dealership for a price that would often be too high for the market, buying from a shady dealer in an even shadier area (Big Paulie’s Used Car Barn!  Everyone is approved! No credit? No problem!  Right in Newark’s West Ward!), or buying from a private seller (which would often prove to be either the very best or very worst option, depending on the seller or the car).  Now though, as has been the case for at least the past ten years, the “Certified Pre-Owned” programs are everywhere.  So, what exactly are they?
