Back in the fall at the Radnor Hunt Concours, I took an opportunity to drive a couple of new Cadillacs. Most of you know I drove an Escalade Hybrid, but the real treat was to yet again sample that great-tasting supercharged V8 which lies in the engine compartment of the CTS-V. In this case, the test car was the deep gray sedan you see above. It had a few options that the coupe I drove back in June did not, so I took it for a drive (on much different roads than the coupe) around the rolling hills of Pennsylvania’s countryside. Cadillac CTS-V
When the CTS-V first came out on 2004 it was quite literally a four door Corvette Z06 with some more luxury appointments of course. With its 400hp 5.7L (or 6.0L in ‘06 and ‘07) V8 it was certainly impressive back then and it remains so today, although the newer CTS-V with its 556hp has eclipsed the true greatness of the original. The filthy triple black CTS V Coupe that I drove
Recently Al and I both had the chance to test drive Cadillac CTS-V Coupes. Cadillac was doing some promotion at the Greenwich Concours d’ Elegance and it turned out they were happy to let two 21 year old car nuts get behind the wheel of their 556hp monster without any qualifications other than being over 18 and not intoxicated. As many of you may know, this is not at all how things are done at dealerships. I myself have tried to test a V series at a dealer and was told they don’t offer test drives of such cars for insurance reasons, so understand that this experience was quite surprising and exciting for us on a somewhat abnormal level.
