Secondhand Saint: Jeep Wrangler TJ

The Wrangler, still in production today, is a reminder of where the original SUV came from. The TJ model, produced from 1997-2006, is, in my opinion, the best interpretation and the best mix of modern technology and old-style design, with time-tested engines, classic styling, and unlimited ability to go anywhere. Calling out Hennessey’s absurdity

Back then they made the baddest Viper around, the 800 Twin Turbo, and it took the spot at the top of my wish list for a time. Since then, HPE continues to build the craziest Vipers around, and has branched out to build modifications for many other types of cars as well. They have made quite a name for themselves in the aftermarket industry, surely as one of the best in the business. Recently though, they released their first car of their own, the Venom GT, and this is where I started to see some issues that needed to be called out. Read the rest of this entry »
Test Driven: 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport

The Wrangler is probably their best-known product, and having never driven one before, I took a chance and grabbed the keys to a brand-new, 2011 Sport model, in red. While the Wrangler isn’t for everyone, I’ve been appreciative of it for a long time now, and its appeal has not dropped that much even in these times of higher fuel economy and a high demand for safer cars. Spotted! Heavily modified car, Marylebone, London, UK

Looks like a mini-Hummer. Probably a kit car, but really, really cool stuff here.
My uncle was out for a stroll and saw this little monster truck on the side of the road. It looks like a Hummer hX concept, that’s been left in the dryer for one too many cycles. Does anyone know if this is a body kit on some other car? If it is, I give a hat tip to the owner, because he’s done an excellent job with it.

The original Willys Jeep MB. Next to a Wrangler--we see the history.
Jeep’s always been one of the more interesting stories of how an automaker came from one specific purpose to one of the most well-known brands in the world. Now, more than ever, the brand is posed to make a significant comeback and become a player in the SUV market for the first time since Chrysler got bought out by Daimler-Benz.
