It may have been a few months ago, but the Greenwich Concours of 2012 was a big change over 2011, with a rain delay in the second day. That said, it did not stop people from enjoying themselves for the entire day. The caliber of the cars at the show this year was nothing short of spectacular, with a great showing of American iron on Saturday, and a true show of European flair on Sunday. I was in attendance for this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise. This was my first time at the event, and it is by far the most epic traffic jam I have ever witnessed. The scale of the event is mind-boggling, with around a million people flocking to the Detroit area to see and show off cars of all types. Yea, this car looks pretty stock, maybe some headers but that’d be about it. Race for slips?
This is one of the first superstock drag specials from Chrysler corporation in the 1960s. This was right at the beginning of the horsepower wars where scores between the big three were settled both on drag strips and at stoplights. Dodge put a 413ci (6.8L) V8 in the Dart, a huge engine for what was a midsize car at the time. The 413 put down around 415hp through a 3 speed transmission, allowing this Dart to break many records in sanctioned drag racing. The owner, a lady named Stacy, told me that she drives this car every day, even dropping off her daughter at school in this beast. If that is not cool in this day and age, I don’t know what is. Most parents may roll up with their kids in Prius’ or Accords, and then you see this old drag racer pull up; unreal. This is one of those legendary muscle cars that steals the show, even when surrounded by other incredible things. I was happy to have seen it, and to be able to take some pics of it. I have yet to see another one like it, enjoy the pics of this great car.
The HemiCuda is my favorite “muscle car” bar none, and occupies a spot on my most coveted list of cars. It has everything I look for in American Muscle; an epic motor (The legendary 426 Hemi), an badass name (Barracuda), cool features (the pistolgrip manual shifter), and awesome, cartoonish styling that brings out childish enthusiasm. The car you see here is pretty much my ideal ‘Cuda, exactly as I just described. Being a ’71 Hemi ‘Cuda, this car is worth a fortune (at least $400k, and climbing) because only a handful were built due to lower demand in its day. That makes it just as unattainable as every other car on my most coveted list, and a real treat to behold in person. Enjoy the epic badassary….
At the Shell station on Woodward Ave during a Saturday cruise night. I am a sucker for cartoonish Mopars and its bright green allure forced me to stop and take some photos. The owner, Fred, was also very cool and showed me around the whole car. The car is currently making around 600hp all motor, and has a nitrous setup in the trunk if more than that is desired. It is a real badass piece of American Muscle on a nice street-able drag setup. This car is oozing with fun personality, and that night it stole the show; not an easy feat during weekend cruise nights here in Motor City. Enjoy the pics. Read the rest of this entry »
Spotted this seriously sinister Ford scraper on the side of Woodward Ave last weekend. It was so cool that I had to turn around to get these pics of it. Awesome car, so badass. Enjoy.
Ever since Pontiac was killed off as a result of the financial crisis, GM has not had a proper American sedan to compete with the successful Dodge Charger. The Pontiac G8 had been in this segment, but it came out right as many people became wary of buying GM products, due to their economic uncertainty at the time. A replacement for it has not yet been seen, although there has been talk of it coming back as the Chevrolet Caprice. I think this would be a great seller now, if GM’s lineup were structured properly, because they have basically recovered at this point and have been doing great things. Read the rest of this entry »

On New Year’s Eve, while shopping for clothes, I saw this Corvette roadster out for a drive. What a strange thing to see this late in the year, and it seems to be in decent shape as well.

After discussing some of the current realities in the exotic rental industry it is now time to consider what needs to be done in the industry and where it could be headed. Having experienced what two of the leading companies have to offer, I have thought for a while about this subject. These two companies, Exotics Racing and Gotham Dream Cars, are almost opposites in a few regards of their operations, and a lot of me believes that the best answer to the problems of this industry lie in between them.
