Test Driven: 2013 Ford Mustang V6 Pony Package

The Ford Mustang is a true American icon.  There isn’t much else to say about it.  However, the Mustang has not always been a perfect car (nor will it ever be).  Over the years, it has gone from an affordable sporty car, to a pathetic little economy car posing as a sports coupe, to a small, boxy, yet rather quick little ponycar, to a retro-styled sports coupe which has plenty going for it.  The base model, however, has always been the one that most enthusiasts tend to laugh off as a rental car special and a fake sporty car.  That all changed a few years ago when Ford put a new engine into the V6 model, something enthusiasts pined for. 2012 Scarsdale Concours d’ Elegance

We were in attendance for this year’s Concours d’ Elegance in Scarsdale, NY. This show is one of my favorites because the venue and time of year are just perfect for this sort of event. The Fall air is a bit crisp, the trees are turning all sorts of beautiful colors, the town is quite nice, and the cars are incredible. This is an overview gallery of the event, and certain cars will get their own features later on. Enjoy.

R.I.P Carroll Shelby, 1923-2012

Today, the automotive world has lost a true legend. Carroll Shelby, winner of the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans and father of the Cobra and the original GT350 Mustang, among countless other high-performance cars, died today at the age of 89 from complications from an illness.

We here at Mind over Motor mourn the loss of this man, and he lives on through his groundbreaking and famous automobiles. Car guys and girls will miss this storied personality.

Street Wars 8

We were in attendance for Street Wars 8. The show was a lot smaller than last year due to organizational issues, but there were still plenty of quality cars to see. Photos are by both myself and Dan Valanzola. Enjoy the gallery.   Read the rest of this entry »

A visit to the Shelby Museum

Shelby Cobra 427

I visited the Shelby Museum on my recent trip to Las Vegas. It is a nice showroom with some pretty rare cars in it. They were gearing up for a 50th anniversary event to be held that weekend, so there were a few extra cars around as well. Here are some photos to enjoy.

Cars 101: Horsepower vs. Torque

These specifications found on all cars, but many people don’t really know what they mean, even if they know what sorts of numbers constitute a lot or a little. There is a very detailed answer for defining each of these terms but this is Cars 101 so we will keep it simple and applicable to what most people can recognize.    Read the rest of this entry »

Cars 101: How To Be A Ricer

Stereotype Ricer. It's not how you stand by your car, it's how you race your car. Monica!!!!!

Back in 2001 there was a little film called The Fast And The Furious that came out, and for all intents and purposes, it created the ricer fad as we know it today. Ricers are all about excessive automotive expression by any means unnecessary. Letting everyone know how cool your car is because of the, mostly useless (or obnoxious), upgrades you have made is the goal. Its like being a “diet car enthusiast”; you get to act like you know your stuff and have a cool car, but without putting forth the money and effort to actually have the real thing. So at this point you may be thinking, “Wow that’s so neat, but how can I become a full fledged ricer myself?” The answer may be simpler than you’d think.    Read the rest of this entry »

Secondhand Saint: 2005-2009 Ford Mustang GT

2005 Mustang GT in Windveil Blue, ripping its tires to shreds.

Ford blew everyone away in 2005 with the newly-redesigned Mustang, on its first new chassis since 1979.  The styling was completely revised, in the ‘retro-modern’ design theory, which spearheaded development of the new Camaro and Challenger. Read the rest of this entry »
