Test Driven: 2013 Ford Mustang V6 Pony Package

The Ford Mustang is a true American icon.  There isn’t much else to say about it.  However, the Mustang has not always been a perfect car (nor will it ever be).  Over the years, it has gone from an affordable sporty car, to a pathetic little economy car posing as a sports coupe, to a small, boxy, yet rather quick little ponycar, to a retro-styled sports coupe which has plenty going for it.  The base model, however, has always been the one that most enthusiasts tend to laugh off as a rental car special and a fake sporty car.  That all changed a few years ago when Ford put a new engine into the V6 model, something enthusiasts pined for. Test Driven: Mercedes Benz C180 Blue Efficiancy Estate

Mercedes C180 Bluet Efficiency Estate

My family and I had this Mercedes C180 Estate for two weeks during our recent trip to Germany. Here in America we have the Mercedes C class, but we do not have the wagon version nor the C180 model, so it was cool to try something a bit different. I have driven a few previous generation C classes over the years, however this was my first experience with the current generation, and this car was fitted with many of Mercedes’ newer gizmos and gadgets. So all in all this C180 offered many new things for me as an American driver, including driving in Germany for the first time.    Read the rest of this entry »

Road Review: 2011 Chevrolet Camaro V6

2012 Chevrolet Camaro V6

When we went to Monterey, CA this summer for the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance we had quite a fiasco with delays on our flight out. Because of this, when we got to the car rental desk, we found the Ford Fusion we had reserved was no longer available. They were also out of lower level economy cars too, so we decided to pay a bit more money and have a Chevy Camaro with a 300hp V6. I had a few days with the car, and got to experience it in a variety of situations. Our hotel was about an hour drive from Monterey on the open highway, and there were plenty of nice twisty roads to drive once we got there. While the Camaro was obviously less of a thrill than some of the supercars we would be driving at the event, it managed to hold its own quite well, and I came away from the trip very impressed with it.     Read the rest of this entry »

The business of renting your dream car: Part 2

The Mercedes SLS AMG, you can have one for a day if you call up Gotham Dream Cars

After discussing some of the current realities in the exotic rental industry it is now time to consider what needs to be done in the industry and where it could be headed. Having experienced what two of the leading companies have to offer, I have thought for a while about this subject. These two companies, Exotics Racing and Gotham Dream Cars, are almost opposites in a few regards of their operations, and a lot of me believes that the best answer to the problems of this industry lie in between them.      Read the rest of this entry »

The business of renting your dream car: Part 1

A photo from Gotham Dream Car's "Legends Tour", Lambos only with special guest Valentino Balboni

The sun shines brightly down on a sleek, sculpted shape; the rays reflecting outward with a voluptuous red hue. The car contrasts sharply with the restrained elegance of nature, imposing itself on all within view. This is your dream car; it is vastly expensive (more than you are ever likely to afford), insanely fast (capable of easily breaking the highest speed limit in just a few seconds), and quite rare (only a few hundred exist, and they are not seen often on the street). In the past it was accepted that only a lucky few would ever get to even drive an ultra-exotic car, and even fewer would ever own one; however in the last decade or so an industry has emerged that will let anyone get behind the wheel of the worlds auto exotica, for a price though, of course. I have been following this industry with great interest and have had some recent experiences with two leading companies. While there are more and more companies popping up out there, I still have yet to see an industry standard emerge, lets first look at what there is out there right now.     Read the rest of this entry »
