Spotted! Porsche 718 RSK Spyder, Zurich, Switzerland

Not sure if this is a genuine RSK Spyder, but I saw it in Switzerland, so it is very possible that it is legit. If it is real the car is quite, quite valuable. It was cool seeing this car on the street, and even among Zurich’s unusually high population of supercars, this classic Porsche stood out.

Obscure Auto: Ferrari 275 GTB/4 N.A.R.T. Spyder

If one day a magical genie came up to me and said “I will give you any classic Ferrari you want”, my choice would be this 275 NART Spyder. Yes that’s right, I would rather have this car than the legendary 250 GTO or 250 Testa Rossa. Why, you ask? Because I happen to be more of a road car person. I like racing cars just fine, but for me, driving perfection is found with the wind in my hair, and the hum of a great engine bellowing off the trees as I cruise by. Going on a real world journey in a great car may be my favorite thing to do, and it is the sole reason this 275 NART Spyder was commissioned by Luigi Chinetti back in the 1960’s. Spotted! Gennadi Ford GTX1, Woodward Ave, MI

The GTX1 is a roadster conversion of a Ford GT by Gennadi Design. 600 GTX1s were planned but only around 100 or so wer completed by the time production ended in 2008, making this quite a rare car. In addition to the roof modification GTX1s were also upgraded to around 700hp, given better suspension, new interior parts, and given a few visual bits to set them apart from a standard GT. It is easy to mistake one for a standard GT though, and I had to do a double take on this one to notice the lack of a roof; at which point I took off after it to get these pics. This is the first GTX1 I have seen on the street. Enjoy.

Spotted! 997 GT3 RS and Audi R8 Spyder, New Hope PA

Spotted these two on a recent trip through New Hope. Awesome cars. Also please excuse us if things are a bit slow here in May, Al is busy with post graduation stuff and I will be in Germany till the end of the month. We will stay on things as we are able, but just know we haven’t forgotten, quite to the contrary. Much more content will be found in Germany.

Obscure Autos: Ferrari 456 Venice variants

Ferrari 456 variants

The Ferrari 456 is a member of a long line of Ferrari grand touring cars. It had a sleek, pure shape to it and was one of the last production cars to feature pop-up headlights. A good many of the standard 456s were produced during it’s eleven year run, and today they are even among the more affordable used Ferraris out there. There were, however, a few other variants of the 456 produced for customers (mainly the Brunei royal family) upon special request. These custom built examples are quite rare and are among the most unique cars around.      Read the rest of this entry »

Test Driven: Porsche Boxster Spyder PDK

Minimalism at its Germanic finest.

I’m not normally the guy who will say that a car is completely faultless in the way that it drives.  I like to pick things apart, try to find a flaw, no matter how hard it may be to do so.  I do it because I know nothing’s perfect and I’d rather not blow sunshine up anything’s rear end without reservation.  But, Porsche’s Boxster Spyder was so good, that I gave up looking. EVO: Roadsters in the Italian alps

Video from EVO Magazine from their test in the Italian alps. The contenders are the drop-top versions of the Audi R8 4.2, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Alfa Romeo 8C, and the Porsche 997 GTS. They ask which car sounds the best, and which one you’d have if you were to pick. While the Audi or Porsche are almost certainly the fastest, I would pick the Alfa Romeo hands down because it speaks to my soul. What would you pick for a blast through the Alps? Tell us in the comments.

Porsche’s void needs filling

Unofficial Rendering of a Porsche 928 replacement

Word in the media is that Porsche is looking to build something to fill the price gap between the $300k 997 GT2 RS and the $870k 918 Spyder coming out in the near future. Many sources are talking about another mid engine sports car, or even quite literally a toned down 918. Just one question, who in the supercar market wants to buy the half assed, toned down version of another car? The answer is nobody. People who spend as much as a house on a car want “the best” and would not settle for having a “poor man’s” model of anything. I have a better idea, and I hope this is actually what Porsche is doing behind closed doors.    Read the rest of this entry »
