The Chevy Volt, and what it means.

Shown at Mainstreet in Motion, in NJ. Very easy to drive and has no problem getting up to highway speeds.

A couple of weeks ago, I got to drive the Volt for the first time.  Nick’s already gone into great detail about how it drives, so I will only gloss over that.  However, I believe that it is a massive step forward for not only General Motors, but the entire industry as well.  This is one of the first huge changes in how cars drive and how they move around, and I’m glad to say that GM has done a seriously good job–perhaps it even wipes their record clean from the EV1 fiasco. Cars 101: How To Be A Ricer

Back in 2001 there was a little film called The Fast And The Furious that came out, and for all intents and purposes, it created the ricer fad as we know it today. Ricers are all about excessive automotive expression by any means unnecessary. Letting everyone know how cool your car is because of the, mostly useless (or obnoxious), upgrades you have made is the goal. Its like being a “diet car enthusiast”; you get to act like you know your stuff and have a cool car, but without putting forth the money and effort to actually have the real thing. So at this point you may be thinking, “Wow that’s so neat, but how can I become a full fledged ricer myself?” The answer may be simpler than you’d think.    Continue reading Cars 101: How To Be A Ricer

Secondhand Saint: Dodge Ram SRT-10

The American Hero Itself, The Dodge Ram SRT-10

Pickup trucks are things that aren’t really supposed to outrun cars like the Porsche 911 or the Corvette in a straight line.  But, for a short period of time after the dawn of the 21st century, Dodge apparently thought otherwise, and set out to prove their theory. Cars 101: Understanding Your Warranty.

The warranty is basically your safety net when you buy a new or used car, and it varies depending on what kind of car you might buy, when you buy it, or whether it’s new or used.  New cars tend to be sold with two warranties, sometimes three (if it’s a hybrid), which might complicate things even more.  Here’s a quick set of pointers on what to know. Questioning Subaru’s ideas for the next generation WRX.

The proposed new version of the STI, unofficial rendering

Subaru has recently announced that the next generation of WRX and STI will be separate from the Impreza. They have said the WRX line will consist of two door cars and will have 1.6L turbocharged engines. This is in an effort to market the WRX brand as full on sports models, not just a fast version of a mundane sedan. So what should we make of this?    Continue reading Questioning Subaru’s ideas for the next generation WRX.

Jeep: If it ain’t broke, dont’ fix it.

The original Willys Jeep MB. Next to a Wrangler--we see the history.

Jeep’s always been one of the more interesting stories of how an automaker came from one specific purpose to one of the most well-known brands in the world.  Now, more than ever, the brand is posed to make a significant comeback and become a player in the SUV market for the first time since Chrysler got bought out by Daimler-Benz.

Cars 101: Proper Lane Merging

Merge Sign

This is one of those things that should be simple and not worth talking about, but during my daily commute I have realized that it is, in fact, beyond the comprehension of a rather alarming number of people.    Continue reading Cars 101: Proper Lane Merging

The Dodge Magnum could be coming back–here’s what they should do to it.

2005 Dodge Magnum R/T. Still one of my favorite cars.

This past week, Ralph Gilles, the head designer for the Dodge division, announced that the Magnum could be making a comeback.  This news makes me very, very happy.

Porsche’s void needs filling

Unofficial Rendering of a Porsche 928 replacement

Word in the media is that Porsche is looking to build something to fill the price gap between the $300k 997 GT2 RS and the $870k 918 Spyder coming out in the near future. Many sources are talking about another mid engine sports car, or even quite literally a toned down 918. Just one question, who in the supercar market wants to buy the half assed, toned down version of another car? The answer is nobody. People who spend as much as a house on a car want “the best” and would not settle for having a “poor man’s” model of anything. I have a better idea, and I hope this is actually what Porsche is doing behind closed doors.    Continue reading Porsche’s void needs filling
