Mind Over Motor is Headed to Boca!

Ah yes, Florida. The land of sunlight, warm temperatures, and lots of rich people who love to buy nice cars. Okay, I’m not talking about all of Florida. I’m talking about a place I’ve been to so many times I practically lived there for a week every year as a little kid–Boca Raton. My paternal grandparents have lived there, more or less, since I was born, and my maternal grandmother lives there half the year. This makes going down there for a Concours event far easier than it does for, say, Amelia Island or Pebble Beach. For the first time in its history, this website will be providing coverage of the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance, held at the Boca Raton Resort and Club, right in town. This year’s featured marque at this event will be Cadillac.  Stay tuned for the best from Boca, as only MoM can bring you.

Now for those of you who watched The Sopranos, here’s a great clip of how Uncle Junior feels about going to Boca. I feel the same way cooped up here in cold, desolate New Jersey (video NSFW).

More to come from Boca Raton next week.

  1. I was intrigued at first, since this will apparently be in my neck of the woods. A google search changed my mind though; looks like most of the cars are way before my time.

    1. Koenigseggs and Enzos are before your time? Cuz those were there last year. Also, you should look at the older cars to see where the newer cars you like have come from. If you think a Rolls Royce is baller in 2015, you should see the Rolls Royces from back in the 1930s, as well as all the companies that competed directly with them like Duesenberg and Cadillac. Adjusted for inflation and time, the current Rolls Phantom would’ve only been a mid-range model back in the 1930’s.

      1. OK, you’ve got me on the Koenigseggs and Enzos. Didn’t see anything like that on their site though (well, one image may have been of a 1960’s Ferrari, not entirely sure though), and I had never heard of this event before so I had no prior experience to compare to. All I saw on the site were cars that looked like they were around since before WWII.

Actually, the Rolls isn’t my cup of tea. The door handles remind me of a minivan, and as a whole, it seems they look like what would happen if a Lincoln Town Car let itself go, diet-wise. I understand they’re supposed to be over-the-top luxury and all, which is nice for those who like that, but I find the styling a bit of a turn-off. Similarly, I respect that some folks prefer how some cars were back in, say, the 30s (my stepmom among them), very elegant and such; just not as appealing for me is all.

      2. When it comes to Concours events there’s something for everyone. I’ve never been to the one in Boca but I’ve heard plenty about it over the past five years. Expect the unexpected at shows like these, that’s how I’ve approached them for the past 4 years.
