Impressions from the Jaguar I-Pace

The Jaguar I-Pace is the first electric car I’ve driven that I could actually see myself owning, and I say this having driven some of the fast Teslas.

I just found the Jag a better all around package. See, I’m not a fan of the idea of an electric sports car at all… totally ruins the point IMO. That said, I love the idea of having an electric daily driver, and the I-Pace just seemed to fit my taste a bit better than the Teslas.

For one, the Jag sits right between the Model S and Model X in size, it’s not low and long and it’s not big and high. Ergonomically, I found it a happier medium. The interior is pretty typical Jaguar, but that’s a good thing, quite nice and comfortable.

On the road in Dynamic mode, Jaguar really did a superb job of dialing in the I-Pace’s dynamics. It’s handling is far sharper and it feels more connected than the Teslas. At 4900lbs, this is a very hefty kitty, but the weight is all so low in the chassis that it just feels ultra stable on the road.

Speed wise, this I-Pace EV400 is no Tesla P100D, but it’s more than plenty quick. I actually like it better because its fast, but not so fast that it will make your sports cars feel slow. 0-60 is around 4 sec and the 1/4 mile is in the mid-high 12 sec range. Quite fast by road standards, and quite fun behind the wheel.

There is also an option to turn on a fake V8 sound that plays through the speakers when you accelerate. I actually didn’t hate it, although I’d rather hack it and have it blast “Danger Zone” whenever the throttle goes past 50% instead. Great way to scare the shit out of your friends.🤘😎

All in all I was very impressed with the I-Pace, and I highly recommend a test drive to anyone even remotely interested.
