Ferrari 212 Export Berlinetta by Touring at Amelia Island

20140307-IMG_4203

While I was waiting to sign up to drive a Porsche, and while Nick was busy driving the bewitching new SRT Viper, I spent most of my brisk Florida morning at Amelia Island chasing after cars that were entering the hotel grounds.  While I was running around, I found myself chasing down this gorgeous little number.  This marks only the second time I’ve found myself close to a 212, one of the first well-known cars Ferrari produced.  This particular car is a 212 Export Berlinetta wearing its original Touring coachwork in a deep, rich burgundy hue with a rather Spartan tan interior, wire wheels, and details that kept my attention for a solid amount of time.  It may have been parked among a Lamborghini Aventador, Porsche 918, and a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, but the little 212 had absolutely no problem drawing a crowd to itself in front of the Ritz-Carlton. Enjoy the photos.

Ferrari 458 Italia Review, Al’s Take (GRADE: A)

Ferrari 458 Front Angle

At the end of the morning after the Fourth of July, the mercury was slamming 112 degrees outside of Las Vegas, and it was nice and somewhat cool inside the tent with all the exotic cars I’d been driving.  After prepping myself with a drive in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, I had one car left.  Thanks to the heat, the F430 Scuderia I’d wanted had gotten sunburned and whimpered back to its lair, but the newer 458 Italia in the tent was just tanning in the searing sun, ready for me to drive it.  Of course I obliged, and found out what’s possible with a 562bhp V8 stuffed a few inches behind the back of my ears, other than making me nearly go deaf. Ferrari 250 GT SWB at Festivals Of Speed: Amelia Island 2013

Ferrari 250 GT SWB at Festivals of Speed

This beautiful Ferrari 250 GT SWB was at Festivals of Speed: Amelia Island last year. It is a stunning example of this iconic Italian racing car painted in Ferrari’s signature red. This classic Ferrari was one of many stunning cars at the show last year, and we are looking forward to attending this year’s event in a few weeks. I’m sure there will be much more where this came from. Till then, enjoy the photos.

Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spotted in Camel, CA

Ferrari 430 Scuderia in Carmel, California

While out car spotting during Monterey Car Week, we caught this striking white Ferrari 430 Scuderia prowling the streets of Carmel, California. Naturally, with droves of exotics roaming the streets in the Monterey area, only the creme de la creme of cars stand out enough for us to raise our cameras. This Scuderia was definitely good enough with its custom gray accents. Enjoy.

Ferrari California T, now with 200% more TURBO!!!

2015 Ferrari California T

If the Ferrari California was broken in any way at all, it has now been fixed with a healthy spoonful of forced induction.  That’s right folks, you are looking at the first turbocharged Ferrari since the mighty F40, and it comes to us in the package of the “baby” model for the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Well it seems that the baby has grown up because the California T’s new 3.9L twin-turbocharged V8 makes 552hp and 523ft/lbs of torque to the previous version’s 485hp and 372ft/lbs of torque…. if that isn’t a substantial increase, then I don’t know what is.

I drove the original version of the Ferrari California, the one with a measly 452hp and 358ft/lbs of torque, and I never once felt it was lacking for speed. This new California T is a major change, though, and not just because of the raw numbers. The real difference will be in the car’s drivability, now with all that extra torque available lower down in the rev range. It will be a Ferrari unlike any we have seen in quite some time, if ever.

Ferrari 599 GTO spotted at Pebble Beach

Ferrari 599 GTO spotted at Pebble Beach

I spotted this awesome looking Ferrari 599 GTO at Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week. I was about to step into into a Jaguar F-Type V6 S for a drive when I heard a loud downshift with the unmistakable bark of a Ferrari V12. I quickly got my camera ready and caught the GTO right as it came into view. Great car.

Right at the entrance to the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, last year, was an RM Auctions booth with this majestic 1953 Ferrari 340/375MM Berlinetta Competizione on display. It was a sort of tangible promotion for the auction they would be running in Lake Como, Italy later in the year, and what a way to draw attention! As a well-decorated classic racing car, this Ferrari 340/375MM Berlinetta Competizione just screamed top-dollar, and it wound up selling for around $13 million (9,856,000 Euros).

Many may wonder what makes this car $13 million worth of “special.” Just remember that cars have become like fine art at this point, and historical significance plays a huge role in these astronomical values. Most notably this car, chassis number 0320AM, helped to propel Ferrari to victory in the 1953 Manufacturer’s Championship. While it only took first place at the 12 Hours of Pescara, this 340/375MM managed to accrue many solid finishes that helped Ferrari earn valuable points. In particular, it placed 6th in the infamous Carrera Panamericana, and the car set a record over a stage of the race that has yet to be broken — averaging 138mph over 223 miles on public roads (yes there was pedestrian traffic during many races back then). Now just imagine trying that in even a fast modern car, let alone one with 1950s era technology, like this Ferrari.

Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina at The Quail

Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina at The Quail

We saw James Glickenhaus’ Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina when we attended The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering this summer, during Monterey Car Week. I will be honest, I’ve been eagerly waiting to see this car in person for quite some time now. Al and I go to many of the same shows Mr. Glickenhaus attends, and we’ve had the pleasure of talking with him a few times (he’s a real nice guy). That said, until The Quail, we had to make due with seeing the other incredible cars he brought to each show (woe is us…right?)

The Ferrari P4/5 is a one-off vehicle commissioned by Mr. Glickenhaus from Pininfarina. Underneath its bespoke body work it is a Ferrari Enzo, but the design has been overhauled to be more reminiscent of the classic Ferrari P3/P4 racing cars of the late 1960s….. Mr. G owns one of those too by the way.

The P4/5 has gathered a lot of fame over the years, and it was beyond thrilling to finally get see it with my own eyes. It is a stunningly beautiful machine, and it seems Ferrari’s designers may have even taken a little inspiration from it when they penned the LaFerrari. The Ferrari P4/5 is literally an Italian Supercar like no other. Even amongst the impressive automotive elite at The Quail event, the P4/5 still managed to attract quite the crowd. Subtle it is not.

Enjoy the photos, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Spotted! Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, Pebble Beach, CA

Yellow Ferrari F12 Berlinetta at Pebble Beach

This was the second Ferrari F12 Berlinetta I ever saw on the street. The first was earlier that morning at The Inn at Spanish Bay, also within the Pebble Beach premises. Monterey Car Week is always a great place to see the newest exotic cars running around, and we saw a few more F12 Berlinettas running around over the course of the weekend.

I think this Ferrari F12 looked especially righteous in bright yellow because it gave the car a crisp appearance that contrasted starkly with everything else around it. As Ferrari’s newest grand touring car, the F12 is the latest in the lineage of my favorite type of Ferrari. It is an incredible sight in person with its scientifically sculpted shape, and with 730hp coming out of its 6.3L V12 engine, I’m sure it is a total beast to drive as well.

Enjoy the photos.

Spotted! Ferrari 246 GTS, Carmel, CA

Carmel is a very busy little village during Concours Weekend, but it’s probably at its absolute busiest on the Thursday before the show itself.  That day is the Tour d’Elegance, when a selection of the cars participating in the Concours take a drive around the local area and finish their run on Ocean Avenue, Carmel’s main drag.  Nick and I drove into town so that we could witness the event, and were quickly outmatched in finding any resemblance of “street parking.”  Luckily for this Ferrari 246 GTS owner, there was a spot available at just the right moment, and he got himself a spot.  Luckily for me, I happened to get a good picture of this pretty little blue 246 GTS.  I don’t see them often, and in a color like this shade of blue, it’s a dark-horse favorite of mine when it comes to old school Ferraris.  I was lucky to have grabbed this shot when I did, as I don’t think I saw this car again except in passing.

Fun from Mach 5 Cars’ Exotic Rally Tour

I recently visited Mach 5 Cars to take part in one of their Exotic Rally Tours. Two of my friends work for Mach 5, an exotic car rental company in the Tri-State Area, and this is something I had been meaning to do for a while now. I took a few pictures, and shot some video of the fun we had on the tour. I was partnered up with my friend, Pete, who works for Mach 5, so when he was driving things got a little crazier.

So check out the video and the photos. Enjoy the sights and sounds of what was surely one of the more exciting days I have had in a while. We look forward to more collaborations with Mach 5 Cars in the future. Check out their website, and give them a call if you want to get yourself behind the wheel… their Exotic Rally Tours are one of the best values in the business. Enjoy.
