This monster of a Camaro was at the cruise night in Hopewell, NJ last spring. It is a ’69 model car, but has obviously been heavily modified. Under the hood there is a supercharged 540ci V8…. thats 8.85L for those of you who use metric. I spoke with the owner’s father and he said it was putting down around 800rwhp, and with those enormous rear tires it will probably hook up fine at the drag strip. This is American Muscle at its finest. Enjoy.
The new Corvette has finally been unveiled, and my, oh my is it stunning. Other Corvettes have all been a bit plain at their unveiling, but this new Corvette Stingray is legitimately stunning. I would even venture to say it is the most stunning Vette at its launch since the original Stingray, the C2. You can see all the details on Jalopnik, but in short its got a 450hp V8, all of GM’s latest tech toys, a 7 speed manual transmission, and higher quality befitting of a world class sports car. All in all, I am thoroughly impressed. Great job GM!!!
This epic Ford rat rod was at the Scarsdale Concours d’ Elegance. It was very well done, with a brutal supercharged V8 powering it. One has to wonder why someone would give it all that power with such skinny rear tires, but hey, it sure caused a scene amongst high society. This glorious rat rod stood in stark contrast to the high dollar luxury cars that filled the streets that day. It was a big calloused middle finger to the Rolls Royce crowd, with their pocket watches, and yippy appetizer dogs. This thing added a bit of flavor to this year’s event that is not normally present at a Concours, and for that I loved it. This is one of the coolest rat rods I have ever seen, the supercharged V8, the red wheels on whitewall tires, everything about it screamed “F**k you society!”. I saw this beautiful C1 Corvette during my last night on Woodward Ave this past summer. I saw many of the great American cars this summer, but it was nice to leave off with true legend. The Corvette is still one of the fastest, most accomplished cars money can buy, and this was the first generation. By 1958 V8s were the norm in Corvettes, and the car was well on its way to becoming a legend. This read and white example is like the apple pie of Corvette heritage. Enjoy.
Haven’t had a solid muscle car in a while, so this Plymouth Fury should get things back on track. I was blown away by this thing when I saw it during my summer in Detroit. First off I am a huge fan of black and red color schemes, so even just looks alone caught my interest. But then the hood was popped, and inside sat a 426ci Max Wedge V8; the epitome of the 1963 models. This Fury embodies what the muscle car is all about, rather unassuming looks with a whole lot of punch under the hood. Enjoy.
I have been around cars for a long time now, and it has gotten to the point where I generally know what to expect when I get behind the wheel of something new. Many cars have some surprising features, but usually these surprises are more of a nice touch, a cherry on top of the ice cream sundae; if you will. Every so often though, I find something that completely throws my expectations out the window. Back in the 1970s, Cadillac and Lincoln were facing an onslaught of luxury imports. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Jaguar were all moving in on their sales and they needed to adapt to the newbies, which were just as luxurious (if not more) for a decent price, with better economy and reliability. Both brands went to the drawing board, and within two years of each other debuted a new, smaller model which was designed to give an owner the same experience as the bigger cars, but with a nod to better economy and practicality. This custom International Harvester truck was at the cruise night in in Hopewell, NJ a few months ago. I must admit that I don’t know much about these trucks except that they are quite rare at this point. This particular truck has obviously been slammed and customized, with pure badassary seeping from every nook and cranny. Enjoy.
This an interesting, albeit love/hate sort of car. I have to admit that when I first saw this thing roll past, a few days before I shot these photos, I thought to myself, “Are you kidding me?”. However, up close the car is really well done and it kind of grew on me after I was able to look at it for a while. I can certainly appreciate where this car is coming from, and I give the owner credit for doing a great job on it. I still find it a little forced, and a little too short compared to the real Plymouth Superbird, which I saw in traffic at the same time as this car. This new Superbird certainly turns heads though, it will get you noticed for better or worse. I can’t fault someone for making their idea happen though, so I’m glad this exists. It takes a special sort of car to pull off the color purple, and this does it as well as any of them. This beautiful Mercury custom was sitting at the Burger King on Woodward Ave during the Dream Cruise this summer. I am a huge fan of this type of car, so I am happy to add this to the features we have done on Sh’Boom and others. I wasn’t able to talk to the owner of this car so I really don’t know anything about it. I sure enjoyed seeing it though. Enjoy.
