The crown jewels of the car world

Highlights From the Philly Auto Show

Bugattis in Philly

We visited the Philadelphia Auto Show this weekend and there were lot’s of sights to be seen. The exotics displays were as good as they’ve ever been, largely thanks to CF Charities and their friends. The hypercar game was strong, with two Bugattis and 3 very unique American offerings from SSC, Mosler and Saleen, among others. It was insane.

The rest of the show was top-notch too, with many of the latest and greatest offerings were on display. We also got to take a quick spin in the new KIA Stinger GT, and the car made a great first impression.

Enjoy the photos, some are mine and some are courtesy of my friend and co-worker Sam Chun. These are some highlights with plenty more to come.

I’ve finished my LEGO Ferrari F40

Lego Ferrari F40 12

This is one of those gifts I had wanted, but couldn’t justify buying for myself as a young professional trying to spend money on ‘real’ things. My girlfriend, Gab, knew I wanted the LEGO Ferrari F40, though, and her Mom went over and above for my birthday and surprised me with it. Needless to say, I was quite surprised, and I got excited like I did back when I was a kid. I thought it was clothes because the box was a similar shape, but it was a LEGO Ferrari. SO AWESOME!

It took me a week or two to put it together, and I was astounded by LEGO’s attention to detail. I have a diecast model of an F40 to compare, and they really did account for everything.

Once finished, I figured I’d take some decent photos of it, like I would a real car. Enjoy!

Spyker C8 LaViolette at Misselwood

Spyker C8 LaViolette Misslewood 7

Spykers are beautifully crafted machines, as much works of art as they are sports cars. There are so many fine details to take in, and they all add up to a striking whole that will make a Ferrari or Lamborghini seem so mass-market.

This Spyker C8 LaViolette was a centerpiece at the Misselwood Concours this year. People adored it, whether they knew what it was or not.

Enjoy the gallery!

Blue Lamborghini Murcielago Spotted in the Car Corral at Radnor Hunt

Blue Lamborghini Murcielago Radnor

Happy 2018 Everyone!

This Murci wears my favorite Lamborghini blue. It also sounds absolutely insane with it’s straight pipe exhaust. You can hear it in the compilation video below…

Baby Blue Porsche Carrera GT at Cars and Caffe

Baby Blue Porsche Carrera GT 9

I am a huge fan of cars in offbeat colors, and the Porsche Carrera GT happens to be one of my favorite cars of all time. This baby blue Carrera GT is one of the staples of the collection at Top Gear Imports. I had seen many photos of it around the interwebs, but it was unbelievable seeing the car in person. Light blue has always been my favorite color on Porsches but they didn’t offer the Carrera GT in such a hue when it was new.

Enjoy the photos of this unique Carrera GT!

Lexus LFA at Cars and Caffe

The ultimate Lexus thus far, with an insane engine for the ages, the LFA always draws attention. I particularly loved the red, black and white interior scheme of this car.

The Senna is awesome, but please stop calling it a “hypercar”

The new McLaren Senna is sure to be many things, but I really don’t think it should be considered a “hypercar.” Yes, that’s right, while most others are writing the same sort of ass-kissing articles about the Senna, I’m over here with my critic hat on.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the Senna a lot, and I’m sure it will be fast in ways not thought possible, but performance alone doesn’t constitute what makes a hypercar a hypercar. In fact, I’d say it’s traditional for the next generation of track-focused supercars to exceed the performance of the previous generation’s hypercars. I mean, the Porsche GT2 RS just shattered the 918’s Nürburgring time, but does anyone consider that a hypercar?

To me, the Senna seems pretty much the 720S equivalent of the 675LT in the previous generation, an ultra hardcore track-focused version of the McLaren Super Series car. Now, it does seem as though the Senna is an even more of a step up over the 720S than the 675LT was over the 650S. They’ve definitely raised the stakes here, so if the 675LT was the 650S turned up to 11, then the Senna is the 720S turned up to 12. But, faster lap times or not, that sure as hell doesn’t put it at the relative level of a P1, let alone the legendary F1.

Callaway C12 Corvette at Cars and Caffe

Callaway C12 Corvette Cars and Caffe 4

This is the first Callaway C12 Corvette I’ve ever seen in person. I had the 1/18 AutoArt model as a kid, and I always loved its sleek design. Underneath the C12 was based on the C5 Corvette, but it was totally overhauled into the racing-derived exotic supercar you see here. Back in 1999 when a brand new C5 Vette sold for around $40,000 and did 177mph, the Callaway C12 sold for $200,000 and could reach +/- 200mph. Back in the late-90s / early-00s that was incredible performance, right on par with top tier supercars of the day.

There’s a very good reason I hadn’t seen one in person until now, and that’s because only 25 C12s were built. It’s quite a rare car, one coveted by collectors, and it was awesome to finally lay eyes on one in the flesh. Enjoy!

The other catastrophically green machine at Cars and Caffe, a Ferrari F12 TDF

Green Ferrari F12 TDF at Garden State Plaza 1

There were two #GreenAF exotics at Cars and Caffe this year. One was the Porsche 918 featured earlier this week, and the other was this other-worldly Ferrari F12 TDF. What a green!
