Autocar Tests The New Ferrari 458 Speciale

When I reviewed the Ferrari 458 Italia this past summer, I said that I thought the car may have reached a sort of apex where it would be hard to improve upon. The steering and gear shifts, and really everything else about the car, were all instantaneous, making the car feel like it was literally connected to my central nervous system.

Evidently, Ferrari has found ways of improving the 458. Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe drives it here, and seems simply blown away by the improvements that have been made. We’ll have to take his word for it for now, but hopefully I will find a way to get my hands on one of these monsters in the future to see for myself.

Spotted! Rolls Royce Phantom DHC and Ferrari F12, Pebble Beach, CA

Rolls Royce Phantom DHC and Ferrari F12

While driving around Pebble Beach during our first day of Monterey Car Week we decided to stop by The Inn at Spanish Bay. We were greeted by numerous exotics parked out front, but this bright purple Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe and bright red Ferrari F12 Berlinetta definitely stole to show. Enjoy the pics.

Amelia Island Festivals Of Speed: Ferrari 333 SP

Ferrari 333 SP

This Ferrari 333 SP was at the Festivals Of Speed event at Amelia Island last March. In the 1990s the 333 SP marked Ferrari’s return to sports car racing after around two decades absence. It competed in the prototype class, and while it never did too well at the 24hrs of Le Mans, it did see some decent success racing in America.

The 333 SP utilized a 4.0L V12 that was an enlarged version of the engine from Ferrari’s F92A Formula One car. It produced around 600hp in the 333 SP. Interestingly enough, Ferrari actually outsourced the chassis of this car to a manufacturer called Dallara, so you could say it is a sort of joint effort.

This is the first 333 SP I’ve seen in person. What an incredible machine it is!

Spotted! Ferrari 599 SA Aperta, Monterey, California

Ferrari 599 SA Aperta Ferrari 599 SA Aperta

We saw this very rare Ferrari 599 SA Aperta on our walk into the Quail from the parking lot. For those who don’t know, the SA Aperta is basically a convertible version of the Ferrari 599 GTO of which they built just 80 examples. Enjoy.

Chris Harris Thrashes the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

It would seem that Chris Harris’ popularity has made Ferrari rethink his blacklisted status as a journalist. Not only did they give him an F12 Berlinetta for this video, but they also threw in five sets of tires for him to shred. This is a fantastic review of the F12 Berlinetta, as we expect from Mr. Harris, as well as a healthy dosage of slidewayz car porn to drool over. The Drive Network does it again! Enjoy.

2013 Monterey Motorsports Reunion: Ferrari 250GT SWB

The Motorsports Reunion at the famed Laguna Seca racetrack in Monterey during Concours weekend is a place where the phrase “expect the unexpected” is more true than anywhere else in the car world. This is a place where it’s no surprise to see a older Formula One car, a Porsche Le Mans racer decked out in the classic orange Jagermeister livery, and a Trans-Am era Chevrolet Camaro in the same place. However, I wasn’t necessarily expecting to see a pristine Ferrari 250GT SWB in the paddock. Nonetheless, this bright yellow piece of Italian craftwork sat in the side of the paddock, sharing space with a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster. Against the gray sky and flanked by a blue Porsche racer, calling it a standout would be a bit of an understatement. Enjoy the photos.

Chris Harris’ Ferrari 512TR Movie

Apparently Chris needed some bread, so what better excuse is there to put on a fine white Italian suit, and go drift a Ferrari 512TR? Awesome video.

Spotted! Ferrari Enzo and F50, Monterey, CA

Ferrari Enzo and Ferrari F50

While checking out RM Auctions, we noticed these two “Super-Ferraris”, an Enzo and an F50, sitting in front of a hotel in Monterey, California. Naturally, photos had to be taken.

It is always awesome to see any of Ferrari’s ultimate creations on public roads, and we saw these two rolling around at various times throughout the weekend. Even with the new LaFerrari taking the throne, both the Enzo and F50 remain automotive royalty. Enjoy the photos.

2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder

Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder

When attending Monterey Car Week, seeing incredible cars is a given. However, some cars are incredible amongst the incredible, and those are the cars you really want to see. This time around, I really wanted to finally see a Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder, my favorite classic Ferrari, yes, even more than a 250 GTO. I had heard about the red 275 NART Spyder that was going up for auction, so I figured that would be the one I’d get to see.

As circumstance turned out, we arrived at Pebble Beach to pick up our press credentials right as the Tour d’Elegance was rolling by the Lodge. To my amazement, a blue 275 NART Spyder was among the grand parade, and it served as the welcoming party for what was to be an incredible weekend.

Chris Harris, Ferrari F40, Ferrari F50… nothing more need be said

As a gearhead with a website, I am obligated to share something like this when I see it. Drive’s Chris Harris has a day made of dreams, drifting a Ferrari F40 and Ferrari F50. Fantastic video.

The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2013

Ferrari P4/5 owned by James Glickenhaus
Ferrari P4/5 owned by James Glickenhaus

The Quail is probably the most exclusive show during Monterey Car Week. The best cars are always in attendance, many of which don’t even show up at Pebble Beach — despite Pebble Beach being the far more prestigious event. There is some political BS surrounding the event that I could address, but frankly, I only care about the cars.

Put simply, the Quail is absolutely the show to go to on the Friday of Monterey Car Week, provided you can get in. Every event on the Monterey Peninsula is worth checking out, but the comparative quality of the automotive crop at this event is staggering, even with the high standards of the other events. We got there a bit late because of prior engagements that day, but I we still managed to see most of the event. I’m going to just let the pictures do the talking from here. Enjoy.

Best in Show Winner, the 1934 Packard 1108 Twelve Dietrich Convertible Victoria

We have just had a mighty few days  in the midst of the automotive Valhalla that is Monterey Car week, but the capstone event is surely the most grand of all, and that is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

This is an event where champions compete against champions. At any other event, every participant in the Pebble Beach Concours would likely win best of show. The field of automobiles is just plain unbelievable — the second you think you’ve seen everything, something incredible catches your eye. This is a place where a Lamborghini Miura may go overlooked, a place where everywhere you look, there is something astonishing to take in. This is la creme de la creme de la creme of automobiles.

Pebble Beach was once again kind enough to grant us media passes for this event, for which we are extremely grateful. I definitely feel like we put it all to good use this year, capturing tons of material to be used over the coming months. This is a highlight gallery of the event that aims to wet your appetite for what’s to come. Enjoy the photo gallery, and check back for much more from the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
