Mazda Cosmo Series II at the 2016 d’Elegance at Hershey

As time has gone on, early Japanese sports cars have received more recognition for their groundbreaking design and engineering. The original Mazda rotary sports car, the Cosmo (which would be known eventually as the RX-7), is most definitely no exception. Quite expensive when new (over $4,000 in 1968), they were not that popular Stateside, but that would change by the subsequent decade. This white example shined brightly at the Hershey Concours this year, and grabbed my attention rather quickly. I believe it has grabbed your attention as well. Enjoy the photos. A very wet Lamborghini Miura at the Greenwich Concours

Wet Lamborghini Miura Greenwich 3

It rained like hell at on the 2nd day of the Greenwich Concours this year. We spent most of our time enjoying wine tasting, eating our fill of as many (free) lobster sandwiches as we could stomach. When the rain did die down, we got photos of the cars, most of which are seldom photographed when soaking wet.

Here are some wet shots of this black Lamborghini Miura. You won’t see one shown like this in the RM Auctions catalog, that’s for sure.

Enjoy!

When the condoms all broke, but #Stance is life, this Toyota Sienna is your Shaggin’ Wagon

Slammed Toyota Sienna 1

This is what will happen increasingly as the stance people reproduce. Minivans are usually seen as lame, but with a little trendy inspiration, this one has become pretty “bitchin.”

I gotta hand it to whoever built this Sienna, they did a great job with it. That is one good thing about the stance culture, you can participate with any car. That means, unlike us sports car enthusiasts, that when you have kids, you won’t be completely and utterly screwed.

Either way, I just hope they at least open the windows when they vape with the kids in the car.

Shelby Cobra Kit Car spotted in Los Angeles, CA

Cobra Kit Car Front

The Shelby Cobra was a truly legendary car, which took the standard muscle car formula of “big engine in a small car” and took it to its logical extreme, thanks to a puny British roadster infused with the beating heart of a Ford big-block V8 (or small block for the weak). The story has continued today, with various companies offering kit cars. My brother Matt was out and about on Sunday morning and came across this Cobra kit car sitting on the side of the street. He’s become quite a reliable car spotter out in L.A.–and he’s clearly not afraid of the egg-fryingly hot temperatures out there (unlike me, who is happy to sit in air conditioning the entire day). Thanks for the pickup, Matt!

BMW Z8 Spotted in Greenwich, CT

BMW Z8 Spotted Greenwich CT

This BMW Z8 was one of numerous tasty cars we saw on the streets of Greenwich during Concours weekend. It’s a roadster with the same engine as the BMW M5 of its day. Quite a nice recipe indeed, and as it turns out, also quite a good investment.

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione at the Amelia Island FOS

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Amelia Island FOS 1

The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cars we’ve been blessed with this century thus far. I mean, just look at it. The quintessential essence of the Italian Sports car, this 8C was deep red with a body of sleek curvaceous sexiness.

Many people tend to think right to Ferrari, but remember, Alfa Romeo is the real “Original Gangsta” of Italian sports cars. Enzo Ferrari raced Alfas himself, and his race team, Scuderia Ferrari, saw legendary success with Alfas before they were able to build their own cars after the War. Alfa Romeo was where so much of what we hold dear about Italian cars now all started, and the 8C Competizione marked the return of greatness to the brand. Greatness Alfa continues to push for today with the 4C and the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Feast your eyes!

1956 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz at the 2015 Radnor Hunt Concours

1956 Cadillac Eldorado Interior

When it comes to Cadillac and the Fifties, everyone thinks of the crazy 1959 model, with its gargantuan chrome bumpers, oversized hulking body lines, and sky-high fins. That’s a shame, because it means that the cleaner styling of the mid-Fifties models often gets overlooked. This red Biarritz convertible featured some fantastic cues, such as the lashings of chrome everywhere, and a great license plate. For those of you who don’t know what it means, “GOOMAH” is a colloquial spelling of the Italian “comare”, which is a term used for a mistress. According to the owner’s wife, she asked for this plate because the owner spends more time with the car than with her. Enjoy the photos. Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 Spotted on Amelia Island

Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 Amelia Island 1

This gorgeous gem was waiting for us in one of the event parking areas on Amelia Island. Burgundy might just be the best color on a Lamborghini 400GT 2+2, and it would’ve surely fit in just fine in the show itself.

Enjoy the photos!

Ford Maverick spotted in Royal Oak, MI

1970 Ford Maverick

Seen on Woodward Avenue during the meet we attended, this orange Maverick was a well-modified example of a car that some would occasionally write off as just another compact commuter-mobile of the early Seventies. With a set of traction bars, Centerline-style wheels, and big rear tires, this was a small Ford that packed a spicy punch.

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

A stunning example among the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossas that were featured at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. I was looking back through my photos, and it managed to catch my eye. Surely one of a number of gems we have yet to post from our past endeavors. Much more where this came from.

Enjoy!

1949 Buick Roadmaster at the 2016 Amelia Island Concours

1949 Buick Roadmaster Front

When Buick hit 1949, they were still using the smooth-running, classy straight-8 engines for which they’d become known over time. The big Roadmaster was their flagship ride, with acres of style, chrome, and good cheer. Even though the Fifties hadn’t quite hit yet, the lines of the 1949 model would be somewhat of a preview of what was to come from GM’s near-luxury brand.
