What will happen when a 1973 Road Runner wants to off-road?

Fred Williams is absolutely nuts. First, he revives old Jeeps that have been sitting for more years than I’ve been in school. Then, he goes and gets a derelict, neglected old Road Runner, and goes crazy. He’s starting a build which will make Chrysler junkies like me want to pull my graying hair out. This will have a turbocharged Cummins V8, 4WD, and massive mud tires. I’m amused and intrigued.

Citroen Acadiane spotted in Malvern, PA

As Nick and I were about to leave the Radnor Hunt Concours last month, I happened upon this old Citroen van and shot a few pictures of it. Not knowing what it was, I thought it was an old Mehari or 2-CV. Turns out, I’m wrong. This is a Citroen Acadiane panel van, and it’s about the size of a mail truck. They made over 200,000 of these, but I doubt many survive–it’s old and French, and like old Citroens, it probably does well at rotting in a field. Luckily, this one looked quite nice. Enjoy the photos. Continue reading Citroen Acadiane spotted in Malvern, PA

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat spotted in Plymouth, MI

After Nick, Shane, and I finished attending and covering the Concours of America at St. John’s, we drove into Plymouth because Nick wanted coffee and the other two of us were dehydrated. We parked up and walked to a local Starbucks, and came across this brand-new red Hellcat sitting on the side of the street. Nick noticed it was an automatic, and immediately began his usual rant about how no one should buy one of these with the slushbox.

Best part? The owner and his son were having a bite to eat just next to the car. Luckily, the owner was happy to debate Nick and offered his reasons for buying the Hellcat with an automatic transmission–such as ease of driving it in traffic every day. While the owner and Nick didn’t see eye-to-eye, I really don’t mind that it’s an automatic. Since I see so few of these where I live and this is only the second Hellcat I’ve gotten up close to, I’m just glad people are buying them–so much, in fact, that demand is thankfully outstripping supply. More photos after the jump. Continue reading 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat spotted in Plymouth, MI

1966 Shelby GT-350 at the Concours of America at St. Johns

When Carroll Shelby got his hands on the Ford Mustang for the very first time, amazing things happened, and history would be changed for good. From 1965 on, once the first GT-350 screamed to life and burned rubber off the assembly line, “Shelby” was associated with the phrase “fast Mustang”. Although little changed in his second year of selling the GT350, demand stayed white-hot. This slick Raven Black fastback is just a small sample of what these cars were capable of–and of those who bought them. Continue reading 1966 Shelby GT-350 at the Concours of America at St. Johns

1932 Plymouth P8 Sport Roadster at the 2015 Radnor Hunt Concours

If there’s one thing I do not see at all among any Concours event I attend it is pre-war Plymouths. They aren’t hugely collectible, not very distinctive, and really weren’t a high-class sort of car during the Depression. However, they were cheap and reliable, and often more stylish then at first glance. Luckily, this little roadster got itself a spot at Radnor last weekend. 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T at Lead East

While running around Lead East a few weeks ago, I was on the lookout for anything with a Chrysler Corporation badge on it. Luckily, I found this yellow Dodge sitting out back, unloved. No one wanted to give it any attention. Thankfully I found it, and gave it some love. It’s bright yellow, it packs a 440 cubic-inch V8 bruiser of an engine under the hood, chrome rolling stock at all four corners, massive exhausts, and a mean stinkbug stance. It’s just about the perfect definition of what a Coronet R/T is all about–showing off, and making noise. Enjoy the photos. Continue reading 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T at Lead East

1957 GAZ Volga spotted on I-476 E, Pennsylvania

On the way home from Radnor yesterday, we came across this familiar Soviet show car that’s made the rounds in Greenwich and Scarsdale. The owner and his friends all keep old Russian cars going, including a Lada (owned by Roman Grudinin, who has taken excellent care of it) and a 1980s ZiL which showed up at Greenwich this summer and nearly wrecked what’s left of my hearing. This blue and white Volga has been at a ton of shows and it was also at Radnor–we caught it on the way home and I felt obligated to take a rolling shot. Who says Communist cars can’t look swanky?

Roadkill meets LeMons…and a Datsun gives its engine for the cause.

Roadkill is essentially two guys wrecking cars for our benefit. And thanks to the 24 Hours of LeMons, a rusty-crusty old Datsun named the Rotsun, a GM V6 with a turbo, and a lot of elbow grease, we have lunchtime entertainment. Roadkill was off the channel for a while due to Roadkill Nights in Michigan, but Finnegan and Freiburger are back and they’ve completely outdone themselves. Watch, and enjoy.

1908 Browniekar at the 2015 Elegance at Hershey

Honey, I shrunk the car! Well, no, I didn’t, but it certainly applies here. This is a Browniekar, which might be the most diminutive Brass Era automobile I’ve ever laid eyes on. It’s small enough to trip over if you’ve had enough champagne at one of these shows, but just big enough to grab your attention. I’m not sure what this is, or why anyone thought it was a car for daily use, but it’s here and it’s showing up nicely. Continue reading 1908 Browniekar at the 2015 Elegance at Hershey

1955 Dodge LaFemme at the 2015 Concours of America

Dodge La Femme Front//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

When it comes to advertising, no one knew how to advertise cars to women in the 1950s. It didn’t stop Dodge from trying, but they clearly weren’t so great at it either. Welcome to the 1955 Dodge La Femme–one of the most obscure 1950s Dodge products out there, regardless of engine or body type. Dodge attempted to make their car appeal to women, but they did it in such a way that would make most women blush with embarrassment for having to be in this car. 1987 Buick Grand National spotted in Royal Oak, MI

On the Saturday evening of our road trip, Nick, Shane, and I were heading to dinner during a bunch of haphazard thunderstorms. While walking to Duggan’s (home of some very excellent French Dip and Cuban sandwiches), we hit one of these storms, but came across this sleek black Buick just sitting in the parking lot of the Italian restaurant next door.
