1957 Ford Thunderbird in Warren NJ Cruise-In

The 1955-1957 Thunderbird was the first and last of its kind amongst Ford’s flagship. Ford chased after the new Corvette and didn’t do a bad job at all at first, but then suddenly changed course. After 1957, Ford went to the Squarebird, which stretched out to become a four-seater and lost the style and panache of the first-generation model. Arguably the cleanest lines of the bunch belong to the ’57, which eschewed the continental kit and rocket-style taillights for a cleaner tail, and did the same to the rocket-style bumper enhancements up front. This red one, seen in Warren last month, really is one of the cleanest examples I’ve seen, with its stunning Jersey tomato red finish and off-white steel wheels. Enjoy the photos. 1985 Pontiac Trans Am Kammback at the 2015 Concours of America

When I say Kammback, the Pontiac Firebird is not a car anyone thinks of. People will think of it if I say phrases like “Screaming Chicken”, “Mullet”, “Eighties”, and my personal favorite, “Drunk Teenager Crashed It Into a Telephone Pole”. Well, this one lacks the drunken teenager and the Screaming Chicken, but it makes up for it with much added Kammback style. 2016 Chevrolet Cruze SPIED in Birmingham, MI!

As all of you know, Nick, Shane, and I were all out having a road trip through Detroit, MI this past weekend for the Concours of America at St. John’s. Before we did that, though, Nick saw the Cadillac CT6 pre-production car drive past our dinner spot at Duggan’s on Woodward Avenue. After checking out the car scene on Woodward later that evening, we drove over to Birmingham and looked for something to do. As it turned out, there was a camouflaged Chevrolet sitting on Martin Avenue, by the park. After shooting it, I took some time to figure out what it might be, and based on the size and shape of the windows, and the grille inserts, I’m pretty sure that this is the new Cruze. Preproduction Cadillac CT6 Spotted on Woodward Avenue

We made the trip out to Detroit this weekend for the Concours of the Americas, and we made it a point to hit Woodward Avenue on Saturday night. We saw a bunch of awesome cars out and about, but specifically we saw a few pre-production GM cars running around, including some camo’d zebras. Of note, we saw this pre-production Cadillac CT6, a few of the new Chevy Volts, and a new Cadillac CT6 model with camo over each of its fenders…. presumably a higher performance model with fender flares.

We got a ton of great material this weekend, so stay tuned!

Jalopnik Finds Out If The Jeep Renegade Can “Jeep” Properly

Jalopnik takes the Jeep Renegade Trail Hawk off-road to see how it stacks up as a real Jeep.

Keep in mind, the Renegade can also see about 30 MPG when cruising on smooth roads. Not a bad mix at all if you ask me.

My brother Matt and his fiancee Rachel saw this parked in the fire department’s garage on Balboa Island, in Newport Beach. It’s a 1920 American LaFrance fire engine in absolutely beautiful condition. While it’s not up to the task of fighting fires anymore, this stunning fire engine is probably a massive hit with the little kids and kids at heart at every parade in town. Enjoy the photos. Sunday was a long day for me, the 1993 Miata, and my sunburned skin. When it’s 90 degrees outside, the first thing into my mind is to run back inside and cower underneath my air conditioner, unless I’m at the beach. There is no air conditioning in the Miata anymore, and at this NASA/MSNE autocross event up at MetLife Stadium (home of the Jets and the Giants, and probably Jimmy Hoffa), it was hot enough to fry eggs on the street and fry my nose and forehead to a nice, golden brown (red). Price Game: One Car for Each Day of the Week on a $1 Million Budget

It’s time for the Price Game! So here’s the scenario. You’ve just won the lottery, but you’re being smart with the money. You want to buy every car in sight, but you know a few million doesn’t go that far these days, so better to invest most of it and keep the money coming in over time. To quench your spending thirst, you set aside an even $1,000,000 to play around with, and set your garage up in a manner that befits the new you.

There is also another catch, though. You want to be sure that you actually use all of the cars you buy on a weekly basis, so you elect to by exactly seven cars to play with… one for each day of the week.

’69 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 Convertible at the Greenwich Concours

When I daydream about my ideal classic Muscle Car, this ’69 Chevy Camaro is pretty much what I imagine. Something that embodies the essence of the flavor that made the American Muscle Car famous, but also with the right package to be an enjoyable driver.

This 1969 model Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 Convertible has everything I’d want. It’s not the craziest Camaro, but it’s not the little one either. She’s got a 396 big block under the hood, with an enjoyable 350-375hp. Not too “fast” by today’s standards, but surely enough to smoke the tires and piss off some Prius owners. For me, this sort of car isn’t about speed at this point, though. It’s about cruisin’ around and enjoying life. That’s why I was thrilled to see it had a manual tranny, a proper 4 on the floor. I know many people like automatic Muscle Cars, but I’d never have one without a stick.

So with this Camaro I could enjoy the full muscle car experience. It has the unique style, a nice big-block V8 rumble, enough performance to get in trouble, some wind-in-your-hair excitement, and an enjoyable manual transmission. There are literally no drawbacks as far as I’m concerned.

That daydream is why this Camaro caught my eye at the Greenwich Concours, because one day I hope to have a classic Muscle car just like this. It may be a Camaro, or it may be something else, but this one had everything I’d want, and at the show the dream was real enough to touch.
