Baby Blue Fiat Jolly at Radnor Hunt

Blue Fiat Jolley Radnor Hunt 1

It’s Italian, it’s stylish, and it’s downright adorable!

The Fiat Jolly is Fun incarnate, a car that can turn a bad day into a great day, even if you just see it drive by. I love the whicker seats, the striped rag top, and the body colored steering wheel. You simply can’t avoid having a great time if you’re cruising around in one of these, and that makes it much more than “just a car.”

Of course the Italians would master the very essence of a beach car, and it’s hard to describe exactly how much I want to own a Fiat Jolly someday. I mean, just look at it.

Enjoy the pics!

Muscle Cars at the Original Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank, CA

1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS:SS

So, as all of you readers know, I was in Los Angeles during Thanksgiving week visiting my brother Matthew and his fiancee, Rachel. After a delicious meal of sushi that evening in Burbank, we started to notice a whole bunch of American hot rods (old and new) passing us by on the streets outside. It didn’t take long for my interest to become piqued by the sounds of pushrod V8s and high-lift cams, so my brother said, “Let’s go check it out after dinner.” Thankfully, my flight wasn’t slated to leave until midnight, so we went out to the scene over at the original Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank, where the meet was going down.

1948 Bentley Mk VI Woody at the Hershey Elegance

Bentley Mk6 Woody at Hershey 1

Who doesn’t love a good old woody? (we’re talking cars here…)

This 1948 Bentley Mk VI bodied by by Harold Radford is a magnificent example of just how elegant an old British woody can be. Known as the “Mk I Countryman” to Harold Radford coach builders, this Bentley represents just a handful of “Town and Country” type Bentleys built in the immediate post-war era.

Keep in mind, the first Bentley Mk VI was delivered just 16 months after the allies won the war in Europe. Built in the smoldering remnants of war-torn, bombed-out Britain, the Bentley Mk VI stands as a symbol of British prevalence after the war.

God save her majesty, and enjoy gazing at this beautiful car.

The Admiral’s blue Ferrari 500 Mondial

This gorgeous bright blue 1955 Ferrari 500 Mondial is one of very few  4 cylinder Ferrari racing cars ever built. Petrolicious does a magnificent job of featuring the story of this machine and its owner.

We actually had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Admiral Phillips back in 2011 at the Radnor Hunt Concours. He was great, and shared every detail we could imagine with us that day, so it’s awesome seeing him and his 500 Mondial now in a feature film like this.

Enjoy!

When an engine seizes, what can cause it? Find out here.

Hot Rod Garage has morphed in a favorite show of mine over on YouTube, simply because of the subject matter covered, and the way in which it is covered. Here, Tony Angelo, proud owner of a matching numbers (same engine as what ended up in the car at the factory) 1971 Dodge Demon 340 in lime green, diagnoses why his engine seized up solid after attempting to break in a new camshaft. While this has never happened to me because I’ve never done serious engine work to a car in my posession, there’s a lot to learn here about what sort of places to look to find the causes of engine seizure, as well as how to make the right repairs. This show’s been going for a few years now from Hot Rod Magazine–and Tony’s a great host. So take a few minutes on your lunch break to watch–plenty to learn.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 at the Concours of America 2015

This isn’t just any run-of-the-mill split window Sting Ray. C2 Sting Rays are probably the most highly sought-after Corvettes of the brand’s sixty-plus year history, but the 1963 model can claim fame as quite a great story. The split window was a one-year option on the 1963 model year only, and that this is a Z06 and a development mule makes our featured car here a great story itself. Bonneville Salt Flats Record Cars at the 2015 Concours of America

1932 Ford Turquoise//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

I’ve held a fascination with land-speed records for as long as I can remember. When I saw two belly-tank racers sitting on the show field in the Concours of America this summer, I made a beeline for the section and started looking at what was on hand. Back in the early 1930s, salt flat racing in Bonneville became massively popular, having started in 1914–and people are still out there every year attempting to set new records in an ever-evolving form of motorsport. These cars all hail from the prewar era and looked fantastic in period-correct trimmings. From belly-tanker racers to a few old-school hot rods modified for salt, the history was all in plain sight. Enjoy the photos. Continue reading Bonneville Salt Flats Record Cars at the 2015 Concours of America

1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible at Lead East

Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible Lead East 1

What a color combo on this immaculate ’56 Chevy!

Mint green and black two tone is not something you see everyday, and how spectacular it looked on this car. There were other Chevys of the era in attendance at Lead East this year, but this thing stood out for me among the crowd. I was literally drooling over this thing for like 40 minutes (my girlfriend will be happy to confirm).

I always love cars in off-beat and unique colors, but this Bel Air Convertible was also in pristine condition, which helped it draw me in. This is proof that a car does not need to be totally custom to shine at a show like Lead East. With the right options, a factory car can be quite stunning on its own.

Enjoy the gallery of this ‘beaut!

1966 Shelby GT-350 at the Concours of America at St. Johns

1966 Shelby GT350 Front//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js

When Carroll Shelby got his hands on the Ford Mustang for the very first time, amazing things happened, and history would be changed for good. From 1965 on, once the first GT-350 screamed to life and burned rubber off the assembly line, “Shelby” was associated with the phrase “fast Mustang”. Although little changed in his second year of selling the GT350, demand stayed white-hot. This slick Raven Black fastback is just a small sample of what these cars were capable of–and of those who bought them. Continue reading 1966 Shelby GT-350 at the Concours of America at St. Johns

Minty Green Porsche 356 at Radnor Hunt

Radnor Hunt Porsche 356 Green

We caught this lovely mint green Porsche 356 in the special car park at this year’s Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance.

I always love seeing cars in offbeat colors, and the 356 wears this shade of green quite well.

Enjoy!
