Peel P50 at Amelia Island: The World’s Smallest Car

Peel P50 Amelia Island 1

This is the Peel P50, and as I said in the title, it is the world’s smallest car. It was made famous in modern times by Top Gear, and I’ve included that hilarious bit below for your enjoyment.

This was the first time I’ve ever seen a Peel P50 in person, and it is really, really tiny. I’m talking like not even up to my waist. It would be so awesome to have a Peel P50 just to zoom around the house in, but they don’t come cheap these days. This red one sold for a hefty $176,000 at RM Auctions Amelia Island. Check out more info on it here.

The Magnificent Bugatti Type 57 Aerolithe at Amelia Island

Bugatti Type 57 Aerolithe Amelia 2

I’m sure many of you know about the most expensive car on Earth (arguably), the 1936 Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic Coupe. Well, this Bugatti Type 57 Aerolithe was the show car that inspired the Atlantic’s design. At the 1935 Paris Auto Salon, the Aerolithe was had a striking and divisive effect on the crowd. It was unlike any car ever seen before because of its swooping coupe shape and also because its body was made entirely of electron magnesium, a metal nearly impossible to work with. It was aptly dubbed the “Electron Coupe.”

Despite initial mixed opinions in Paris, the Bugatti Aerolithe went on to inspire many other French car designs to come during the Art Deco era, including the famed Type 57 SC Atlantic. Interestingly, though, the Aerolithe vanished shortly after the Paris show, and has never been seen again.

Lamborghini Murcielago 40th Anniversary Edition in Carmel, CA

Lamborghini Murcielago 40th Anniversary 1

This 40th Anniversary Murcielago was out and about during Monterey Car Week. I love funky colors on Lamborghinis, but particularly love the teal of the 40th Anniversary Edition because it not shamelessly bright.

Also, this was back before E-Gear took over, so this Lambo has three pedals. Win!

Chevy C2 Corvette Stingray 427 at Scarsdale

Corvette C2 427 Stingray Scarsdale

I still maintain, the C2 is still the best looking Corvette of all time. Something about those bold, creased lines.

Ferrari F12 TDF at CF Charities

Ferrari F12 TDF CF Charities 1

We saw Ferrari’s ultimate front-engined V12 supercar, the F12 TDF, at the CF Charities Supercar Show. One of just 799 built, Ferrari took their plush F12 grand tourer and turned it into a batshit crazy race car for the road, complete with a 780hp naturally aspirated V12. Let us cherish this moment because this sort of engine may not be long for this world.

Enjoy the rest of the photos and check out Chris Harris’ Top Gear Review of the F12 TDF below, so you can hear it’s fury for yourself.

1936 Indian 1265cc “Upside Down” Four

1936 Indian 1265cc Lime Rock 5

I can’t even pretend to be an expert on old motorcycles, but my God, do I love classic Indians. The Indian brand is legendary in motorcycle history, and for me, the flavor of these bikes is unparalleled.

There were a bunch of Indians on display at Lime Rock Park on Labor Day weekend, and my jaw remained dragging on the ground as I photographed them.

Enjoy the pics of this beautiful bike.

Red Carbon Pagani Huayra at Greenwich

Red Carbon Pagani Huayra 2

Paganis are majestic machines. The embodiment of the spearhead in modern automotive art, Paganis turn cutting-edge science into a rich experience that people are willing to pay millions to have in their lives.

It’s all in the details, and the way every little peice adds up to make such a spectacular whole. Very few seven-figure cars are able to justify their price tag as obviously as the Pagani Huayra. Everything about it just feels so special, and when you sit inside the cabin, you wouldn’t feel like $2-ish million had gone to waste.

This red carbon Huayra we saw at Greenwich this year had that extra added touch of style. I’ve seen other cars with colored carbon, but the deep red finish over this Huayra’s carbon body was classy beyond belief. It stands in stark contrast to the run-of-the-mill bright orang or green Lamborghini. This carbon red Huayra doesn’t come off as obnoxious like that at all. In fact, when I was first looking at it, it was difficult to find words to describe it. I just knew I was totally blown away.

Enjoy the photos!

Rezvani Beast X Performance at Amelia Island

Rezvani Beast X Performance Amelia Island 1

This is a Rezvani Beast. It starts life as an Ariel Atom, but gets a total overhaul from Rezvani, built exactly to the buyer’s taste. While I love the raw appeal of the Ariel Atom, I find the Rezvani a lot sexier with its shaped exotic bodywork. Sure those good looks come at the price of an extra 300lbs or so, but Rezvani also more than doubles the horsepower of the basic Atom 3 using a supercharger. That’s 500hp in a car weighing only 1,600lbs, people…

It’s pretty impressive, but it had better be considering, at $160,000, Rezvani has also more than doubled the price of the standard Ariel Atom.

See the Beast in action on Jay Leno’s Garage:

Porsche 993 GT2 on US soil at Lime Rock

Porsche 993 GT2 Lime Rock 1

Happy Halloween everyone!

Yes, this is a real Porsche 993 GT2. It’s here in America, and its registered in Montana, the land of the supercars… or at least it would seem that way with all the Montana plates on all sorts of crazy cars. #Loophole

This 993 GT2 came here from Japan and now resides in New England, I believe. The owner said he had driven it to the show that day.

This is really the first 993 GT2 I’ve seen up close in person. I say “really” because I did catch a glimpse of the stunning blue 993 GT2 that recently sold at auction for $2.4M in the garage at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart. However, it was under a cover, and I wasn’t going to try and pull it off.

Obviously the 993 GT2 is one of those holy grail 911s fit for only the wettest of dreams. One of only 57 road-going 993 GT2’s made, it comes from a time when cars were lighter and much simpler, when 430 turbocharged horsepower in a rear engine / rear wheel drive package meant daddy might not be home for supper.

I’m happy to be able to check another one off my list! Now if I can finally manage to track down a Bugatti EB-110…

Jaguar F-Type SVR in the most Ultra of Blues

Jaguar F-Type SVR Ultra Blue 6

What a spectacular color!

Never underestimate how much of an effect a car’s hue can have on its appeal. The Jaguar F-Type Coupe is one of the prettiest cars on sale today, but it could still be quite forgettable in gray or beige. You won’t for get seeing one in this Ultra Blue, though, especially not this decked-out F-Type SVR.

This blue Jag stood in brilliant contrast to the bright orange Porsche 918 that stole the show at the Scarsdale Concours d’Elegance this year. People were drawn to it almost as much, despite it costing nearly 1/10th of the price of the hyper Porsche.

The F-Type SVR is the king of the Jags right now, though, the pinnacle of performance in their model range. Its 575hp supercharged V8 delivers a thunderous experience for sure, but a lot of me still wishes it came in RWD instead.

It was a real treat to see this Jag, and to get some quality shots of it. It was quite a sight. Enjoy!
