Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster: The Devil Wears Purple

IMG_3723

There are only 4 purple Diablo VT Roadsters on this planet, and that’s a bit of a shame because Lamborghinis should be purple. For me, purple is the most wonderfully vulgar color on a sports car, something about it traditionally being a “girly color,” it’s just a big middle finger to everything that is conventional. It’s a cool color, the coolest on the scale, in fact, but somehow it looks so hot, right up there with fire orange.

I couldn’t get enough of this thing at Concorso Ferrari. It’s such a rare sight that it was worth drooling over for quite a while. The owner was very cool too.

Enjoy the gallery of this flying purple people eater!

Ferrari 512M at Concorso Ferrari & Friends

IMG_3879

The ultimate form of the Ferrari Testarossa, the 512M. I love this car but I’ve always thought it looked like a Testarossa had a love child with a 550 Maranello. See what I mean?

Highlights from Concorso Ferrari & Friend

IMG_4031

The man himself, Horacio Pagani was in attendance for this year’s Concorso Ferrari & Friends. You can see him in the photo above, pulling off in a beautiful Huayra Roadster. It was unreal!

We made the 3 hour drive up to West Hartford because the buzz around this show was insane. Mr. Pagani’s attendance heralded the presence of most of the Pagani automobiles currently in the Northeastern USA. There were eight Pagani Huayras at this show, making this the largest assembly of Paganis I’ve laid eyes on since I visited their factory back in 2004.

There were also a ton of other incredible machines there, and the kids looked absolutely thrilled when they were riding in the cars (the big spectacle of the day).

Enjoy the highlights. There’s much more to come!

Highlights from the 2018 CF Charities Supercar Show

IMG_3568

Wait I thought this said “Supercar Show?” Yea well, that did happen too, but we got a bit sucked into the autocross part of the event in our own cars. The weather was VERY borderline, but the rain never quite hit until the afternoon. That kept a lot of people away from the show, and thus, there wasn’t much of a line for autocross runs. So we happily enjoyed run after run. I love looking at cars, especially rare and exotic cars, but it still doesn’t compare to the thrill of actual high-performance driving.

We made the most of the autocross, and then checked out the rest of the show when it was time for the crew to have lunch. We were a little on the late side, but even still the turnout looked pretty thin in the show itself. I think the threat of rain scared a lot of people away.

Even still, I got to see two things I’d never seen before. One was a V12-swapped Toyota FJ40 Rat Rod, and the other was all three modern Bugattis lined up together. Chiron, Veyron and EB 110 together in the most exotic sort of harmony. It was incredible, and they’ll have their own galleries coming soon.

Enjoy this brief preview of the show.

Shelby Series 1 at Bonhams Auction, Greenwich

IMG_2892

This rare Shelby Series 1, which was owned by Carroll Shelby himself, sold for $313,000 at Bonhams auction last weekend in Greenwich.

The Series 1 was an impressive car, Shelby’s own successor to the Cobra in many ways (even after the Dodge Viper existed) This particular car was the test car for the optional supercharger, which brought the engine up to 600hp and dropped 0-60 from 4.4 sec down to 3.2 sec. That was more than extremely fast back in the 90’s, however, only 249 Series 1s were produced because they were quite expensive for their day at around $180,000.

One thing I hate, but also kind of love, about this car is the “shittiness” of its interior. It just reeks of the worst of mid-90s Ford build quality. I mean the thought of spending over $300k on a car and then being handed one of those awful plastic keys is both sad and hilarious. This car deserved a lot better, but it’s got what you want where it really counts. Truth be told, the Shelby Series 1 is very much “of its era” and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Enjoy the gallery, and read more on the car here.

An Immaculate Porsche 991.2 GT3 Touring at Porsche of Princeton

IMG_1861

This gem was in the showroom for the Cars and Coffee meet at Porsche of Princeton. The cars that showed up were great, but this GT3 Touring was probably my favorite car there. The spec was exquisite. Enjoy the gallery!

A Blue Superbird at a Cars and Coffee (and friends)? Only at Bergen.

Pagani Huayra BC

Only at the Bergen County Cars and Coffee premiere event will you see a Pagani Huayra BC, a black Mercedes G-Class convertible (which were not technically legal in the USA), and this stunning Petty Blue Superbird in the same location. I mean, you will see this at a Concours, but not for free. And that’s the beauty of Cars and Coffee–expect the unexpected at all times. Even if you’ve been tipped off as to what’s going to be there. Porsche 996 GT2 at Cars and Coffee Porsche of Princeton

IMG_1970

This is a real gem, the ultimate 996, a Porsche 911 GT2. There aren’t a huge number of 996 GT2s out there, and many are trading hands for well over $150k.

I think it wears black well…

Highlights from Porsche of Princeton Cars and Coffee

I was able to squeeze in an hour at this cars and coffee held at my local Porsche dealer before breakfast with the family. It was one of those cases where I woke up early anyway, so why not just go? Boy was I glad I did. The cars were all very high quality and there’s plenty more features to come from it.

Until then, enjoy this highlight reel.

Highlights from the 2018 Cars and Caffe Season Opener

Here are some highlights from the Cars and Caffe Season Opener. It’s a little late because I came down with a really nasty flu right after the show, so I’m playing a bit of catch up.

Enjoy this taste of much more to come from this phenomenal event. If you live in the northeastern US, it’s really worth the trip.
