Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS at the Philadelphia Auto Show

Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS Philly 1

The current “King of the Ring,” the new Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS is an incredible machine to behold up close. It’s so focused on speed that it’s damn near a racecar, but being a road car, all of its functional fine details have to be well-finished. All of the air vents are finished with beautiful carbon fiber and the single piece center-lock wheels are quite elegant in addition to being functionally lightweight. As an object, the GT2 RS is something very special.

I also took a look under the rear bumper at the exhaust system, and DAMN! It’s a valved Porsche Sport Exhaust like the optional system on lesser 911s, but in the GT2 RS the butterfly valve is basically just a straight dump hole out the rear of the catalyst assembly. That means the exhaust sound will be about as rowdy as can be when the valve is open, and it will only get channeled through the muffler when the valve is closed. In short, your neighbors may hate you.

But everyone at Cars and Coffee will love you, so I guess it evens out. It was a thrill to see this thing in person for the first time. Enjoy the gallery!

Triumph TR8 at the Bergen Cars and Coffee

Triumph TR8 Rear (1)

Triumph fans don’t like the TR7 at all. The cheese-wedge lines, safety bumpers, awkward finishing lines, and too-small wheels don’t combine to make a pretty picture. Luckily, Triumph wasn’t as dim as we all thought, and grabbed the 3.5L Buick V8 that Rover was using. They shoehorned it into the TR7 and made the TR8 a reality. It wasn’t perfect, but it was at least quick enough that no one knew it was a TR7 with a better engine. These are curiosities today, but this example was too nice to pass up.

Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Coupe by Nastasi Racing at Greenwich

Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Coupe Nastasi Racing 5

Ah, the legendary Alfa Romeo Tipo 33. It was a successful racing platform, and it birthed one of my most lusted-after road cars of all time, the Tipo 33 Stradale.

Get this though, this 1975 Tipo 33 racecar is powered by a 3 liter flat 12 that makes a massive 500hp at 11,000 RPM. I wonder how that sounds…

Enjoy the gallery!

Bright yellow has always looked good on RUF Porsches. This 996 R Turbo is no exception, and no one was expecting it when it pulled up at the Bergen Cars and Coffee last month. Enjoy the photos of this magnetic little number. Continue reading RUF R Turbo at Bergen Cars and Coffee

The New Bullitt Mustang at the Philly Auto Show

Ford Mustang Bullitt S550 Philly

Bullitt Mustangs are badass tributes to a fairly boring Steve McQueen movie that happened to have an epic (and real) car chase. Special edition Bullitt have generally just been dark green versions of a standard Mustang, but this new S550 does pack a little extra punch under the hood, to the tune of 475hp over the standard model’s 460hp. That’s only around 10% down from the mighty GT350.

It’s pretty impressive, and I must say I do love the look in dark green. Thumbs up!

Highlights From the Philly Auto Show

Bugattis in Philly

We visited the Philadelphia Auto Show this weekend and there were lot’s of sights to be seen. The exotics displays were as good as they’ve ever been, largely thanks to CF Charities and their friends. The hypercar game was strong, with two Bugattis and 3 very unique American offerings from SSC, Mosler and Saleen, among others. It was insane.

The rest of the show was top-notch too, with many of the latest and greatest offerings were on display. We also got to take a quick spin in the new KIA Stinger GT, and the car made a great first impression.

Enjoy the photos, some are mine and some are courtesy of my friend and co-worker Sam Chun. These are some highlights with plenty more to come.

Mercedes-Benz 190 SL at the Concours Americana Manhasset

Mercedes 190SL Front

I’ve featured other 190s here before, but to me it doesn’t matter, they’re all special in some way. While it will always be overshadowed by its more powerful brother, the smooth, sculpted lines of the 190 will always find a fan in me. Enjoy the photos of this gorgeous classic. This spectacular 1934 Delage D8S Cabriolet is one of the most elegant French cars I’ve ever seen

Delage D8S Cabriolet 1

This Delage is quite a work of automotive art. The fine details and the sheer craftsmanship of its build in addition to its seamlessly elegant design made it stand out at the Radnor Hunt Concours this year. The alligator leather and the chrome trim were incredible, but the crown jewel of its details was definitely its hood ornament, a crystal woman with a swept headdress.

Such a striking machine. I’ll let the photos do the talking from here. Enjoy the gallery!

1973 Triumph Stag at the 2017 Radnor Hunt Concours

Triumph’s TR series was excellent, until the bender hit rock bottom in 1980 with the cheese-wedge TR7. Luckily, one of their brightest spots outside of that series was the striking little Stag, released in 1970 and pulled from the lineup in 1978. They weren’t without their flaws, but the body style, looks, and driving dynamics were above par in the Seventies. Just don’t keep it too long, or you’d be seeing your mechanic more often than a home-cooked meal. While far from the best car money could buy, it was a fun car for the times and still had plenty of appeal. This particular brown example shone brightly at the Radnor Hunt Concours last fall.

Hot Pink Maserati Quattroporte spotted in Freehold, NJ

At the mall yesterday, I noticed this gem in the parking lot. It’s a pink Maserati Quattroporte Q4, and judging from the wording on the side, it belongs to a local divorce attorney. This is definitely one way to get your business noticed, especially by the sort of gentlemen who will wind up needing a divorce attorney. Plus, it’s a Quattroporte, not a Ghibli, so you know they must be pretty good at what they do.

Check out the hood ornament on this Willys-Knight 66B Great Coupe

Willys-Knight 66B Great Coupe 1

This car is cool enough. It’s the only one of its kind left, and it has a nice color combo to boot, but its hood ornament is absolutely bitchin’. Yea that’s right, I just used the term “bitchin'” to describe a classy pre-war car, but sometimes that’s just how it’s gotta be. And sometimes the hood ornament is the only thing that makes me notice a car.

This Willys-Knight is actually a very interesting car, and you can see some of its details below. But me, I just saw the night in shining armor with his noble steed, racing to save some lovely damsel, atop the hood, and I was captivated.

The right hood ornament adds the perfect finishing touch to an old car like this, and this Willys-Knight did not disappoint. Enjoy!
