Ferrari LaFerrari In The Paddock At Laguna Seca

This was the first LaFerrari I ever laid eyes on. Tucked away under some stairs in the paddock at Laguna, it was actually pretty easy to miss, save for the crowds of people that it drew. The ultimate Ferrari hypercar will always cause a scene, even if it is a more subtle color like metallic gray.

We probably saw 10 different McLaren P1s and 5 different Porsche 918s out in Monterey last year, but this was the only LaFerrari we saw. It’s quite a sight to be seen!

Miuras are gorgeous cars. When it launched, nothing else on the road could possibly hope to catch it on a top-speed run. This was a car capable of over 180MPH in 1968, which no other car came close to at the time. This 1969 model was here in all its Bertone-bodied glory at Hershey last month. Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona at Hopewell Cruise Night

This striking yellow Ferrari Daytona is somewhat of a regular at shows in Hopewell, and it’s a real driver. The owner is always very nice to everyone, and he actually still uses this magnificent Ferrari grand tourer the way it was meant to be used.

It’s always fantastic to see a stallion like this that actually gets to stretch its legs!

1920 American LaFrance Newport Beach Fire Engine spotted in Balboa Island, Newport Beach

My brother Matt and his fiancee Rachel saw this parked in the fire department’s garage on Balboa Island, in Newport Beach. It’s a 1920 American LaFrance fire engine in absolutely beautiful condition. While it’s not up to the task of fighting fires anymore, this stunning fire engine is probably a massive hit with the little kids and kids at heart at every parade in town. Enjoy the photos. BMW 507 at The Elegance at Hershey

This 1957 BMW 507 roadster stood out starkly for me at The Elegance at Hershey this year. I always love seeing BMW 507s, but this one, glistening in luscious red paint, took hold of my attention and would not let go.

With just 253 examples built, the BMW 507 was a product of 1950s, post-war Germany, commissioned by US importer Max Hoffman along side the likes of the Mercedes 300SL and Porsche 356. The 507 was a new league of sports car for BMW, and helped to really set the foundation for the exotic automobiles we love today. The 507 cost an outrageous $9,000-$11,000 brand new back in the mid-late ’50s, making it quite similar to modern supercars today in adjusted cost.

The BMW 507 packed a 3.2L V8 under its hood with around 150hp. Not much over a Miata today, but back then its performance was very solid, and it could reach 124 mph (200kph) flat-out.

Today the BMW 507 is a rare collectable piece that demands a huge amount of money. Values today easily top $1,000,000, and a perfect one will fetch over $2,000,000.

Sunday was a long day for me, the 1993 Miata, and my sunburned skin. When it’s 90 degrees outside, the first thing into my mind is to run back inside and cower underneath my air conditioner, unless I’m at the beach. There is no air conditioning in the Miata anymore, and at this NASA/MSNE autocross event up at MetLife Stadium (home of the Jets and the Giants, and probably Jimmy Hoffa), it was hot enough to fry eggs on the street and fry my nose and forehead to a nice, golden brown (red). 1948 Daimler “Green Goddess” DE36–Best of Show at Hershey, 2015

When it comes to large cars, everyone thinks that good old America is the king. Well, they usually are, until someone else finds a way to top them. Luckily, it doesn’t happen that often. Not so luckily, it’s usually something absolutely mind-stomping when it does. Say hello to this award-winning, Machiavellian, Super-Sized Daimler DE-36 drophead coupe, which won best of show at Hershey last month. Nick saw this at Pebble Beach when he was a teenager and immediately made mention of its show-winning cred on the West Coast. Alfa Romeo SZ Spotted in Greenwich, CT

We spotted this very rare Alfa Romeo SZ in the parking lot for the Greenwich Concours. The SZ came out of a concept design study with Zagato, and is one of the more far-out cars from the late ’80s-early ’90s. Just over 1000 units were produced. This is the second Alfa SZ/RZ I’ve ever seen, the first being on the highway in Switzerland a few years ago.

Such a cool car, quirky, but damn cool! Enjoy the pics.

BMW 850CSi at the 2015 Greenwich Concours

It feels like an age ago when I drove my first 8-Series. It was a dilapidated ’97 840Ci with bad brakes and a busted horn–and it felt every bit as rock solid as any BMW I’d ever wheeled around the East Coast. Here we see the polar opposite of that spectrum. BMW put a V12 in the 8-Series coupe, but then pumped it full of whatever stuff found its way into Alex Rodriguez’s bloodstream, and presto, here’s the 850 CSi. Competition-Prepped 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster at the 2015 Greenwich Concours

The Porsche 356 is a timeless classic. Small, lithe, and captivating, this was the first of Porsche’s sports cars to hit the market and it lasted until 1965 when it was replaced by the 911. It may have been saddled with a four-cylinder engine derived from Volkswagen, and it may have somewhat resembled a VW Beetle, but it was far from a VW Beetle in any way. The Speedster is the most desirable, and this 1957 was the second to last year of production for the lightweight, dry-weather model so loved by contemporary racers, and today’s collectors.
