This is our highlight gallery from Day 2 of the 2015 New Hope Auto Show last weekend. Sunday is always about supercars and other european cars, and this year was WAY better than last year.
Everything from a Renntech Mercedes SLR McLaren, to a Lexus LFA, to a Porsche 959 were present, along with the most minty Lamborghini Diablo SV I’ve ever seen.

When it comes to large cars, everyone thinks that good old America is the king. Well, they usually are, until someone else finds a way to top them. Luckily, it doesn’t happen that often. Not so luckily, it’s usually something absolutely mind-stomping when it does. Say hello to this award-winning, Machiavellian, Super-Sized Daimler DE-36 drophead coupe, which won best of show at Hershey last month. Nick saw this at Pebble Beach when he was a teenager and immediately made mention of its show-winning cred on the West Coast. Randy Pobst should be given a Nobel Prize for the size of his stones. Nick and I both love Roadkill, the show from Motor Trend that features Hot Rod Magazine editors David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan doing nutball stuff with old cars, then subjecting them to either abuse or some sort of scatterbrained idea. The Draguar, originally a Jaguar XJ12, packed a swapped small-block Chevy with a Weiand 671 blower (which self destructed at the drag strip), and now has a blueprinted V8 with over 600hp–they got it running again, washed it, and gave it to Randy Pobst. Watch the rest to see what else happens–I was laughing so hard I really did fall off my chair, and I have the bruise on my arm to prove it.

At the Scarsdale Concours, they had a McLaren P1 (left) on display right next to its little brother, a McLaren 650S Spyder (right). They were even the same color and have similar styling in the front. To most normal people, they looked like the same car, and I heard multiple conversations where someone had to explain why the grey car on the left was so much more special than the gray car on the right. This got me thinking about the real value of the McLaren P1, when it costs a massive $1.3 million more than the 650S Spyder right next to it. Is it really worth that, I mean really?
Now, obviously I realize that people who can afford a seven figure car aren’t counting their pennies, and most could easily afford both cars without a second thought. That isn’t my point here. You see, most of what people pay for with ultra-luxury items is total bullshit. Profit margins are through the roof, because it’s easy to get people to pay more if you just blow a little smoke up their asses with terms like “exclusive” or “limited”. So what do you actually get in a P1 for spending the extra $1.3 million?

Anybody want to go fishing? Well, I’m no fisherman, but I think that with this thing, it’s be difficult to justify parking it near a dock–the metal’s so thin it might just rust within a foot of the ocean. This is a 1957 Mini Moke, but it’s not just any Moke–this one’s a beach car. When it comes to beach cars, I’m used to seeing Fiat 600s with basket-weave seats and doily trim hanging off the cloth roof. On Day 2 of this year’s Greenwich Concours d’Elegance we were blessed with a sudden downpour that made everyone run for cover. However, it also covered all of the immaculate cars in some beautiful water droplets, making for some wonderful photos. Rain and clouds also really make the colors “pop”, so I actually prefer it to direct sunlight for shooting cars. I’d imagine that the gentleman in the silver Porsche RSK Spyder (below) might disagree, though.
There were some truly beautiful cars displayed on Day 2, including that bright yellow/green Lamborghini Miura you see above – we saw him driving around on the streets of Greenwich before the show, and promptly lost bowel control. Thankfully we all had a change of pants in the car.
I should also point out that the green Ferrari Daytona Spider (seen below) is the only one ever made in that color, so one of the rarest examples of an already rare car. The Pagani Huayra was also said to be “one of one”, but every Pagani is built custom to order, so every other Huayra is equally “one of one” – people just love to toot their own horn, I guess, but an incredible car for either way. (My Subaru is “one of one” too, if you count it’s unique stone chips)
I thought last year’s Greenwich Concours was the best in recent memory, but this one just may have topped it. There’s more to come from the event, but enjoy looking through our highlight gallery of Day 2!

The Greenwich Concours was nothing short of epic this year. There were insane cars in attendance of all types, and it was thoroughly entertaining to cover. This year there were a few European exotics mixed in with the American cars on Day 1. I’m not sure why, but it made a nice spectacle.
Of note, Jim Glickenhaus brought out his one of a kind Ferrari 330 P3/4 (above), two Pagani Huayras showed up, and the Packard 8 that won Day 1 was just immaculate.

I just got back from an awesome but exhausting Memorial Day Weekend getaway on the Delaware Shore with my girlfriend and family. Piggybacking off of the Ford Bronco from Saturday, I want to share some other great cars we saw while out and about. Rehoboth Beach is a lively town, with lots of interesting cars running around. These are what I was able to catch with my phone.
I should also mention that I did see a Ferrari 599 GTB as well as a Mercedes SLR McLaren parked in driveways in a ritzy neighborhood along the coast, but I couldn’t get pics, unfortunately.
My favorite has the be the Ford Thunderbird, featured above. We saw it roll through town later on the same evening, and the thing was a total show-stopper. Below, we saw a Land Rover Defender, Mercedes SL63 AMG and Dodge Viper GTS, respectively.

What is a hypercar? A hypercar is a supercar among supercars.
What is a supercar? A supercar is a faster, more extreme sports car.
What is a sports car? A sports car is a driving-focused machine in purpose with transportation being a secondary concern.
That is a very simplified rundown of the status that hypercars have in the world of automobiles. Supercars are what most people dream about, hypercars are what supercar owners dream about. They are the automobile fully turned up to eleven!
But where did it all begin, and how has this ultimate class of cars developed over time? Let’s go back to the 1950s.
The Porsche 911 has traditionally been the king of luxury sports cars, but the current generation has become way too expensive and is fairly forgettable. 911 Carrera S models start at $100,000 and can top $150,000 with all the options you want. For that kind of money, don’t you want something with a little more impact?
The 911 is probably as weak as it has ever been right now, and happily, there are many great options that can be had for under $120,000, let alone under $150,000.
The Jaguar F-Type is a relative newcomer, and it has a hell of a lot to offer for very reasonable money.
This is the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, a rear wheel drive one, which sadly will only exist for the 2015 model year. Come 2016, and all V8 F-Types will all be all wheel drive. The plus, longer tire life and more grip… the minus, longer tire life and more grip.
In either RWD or AWD form, though, the V8 Jag F-Type is a hugely desirable car. To the extent that I might argue it’s the best luxury sports car (or “Sports Grand Tourer”) to buy right now, overall.

It’s an epic showdown between the analogue and the digital. But the real question is, can the P1 even come close?
