Cadillac is not a brand known for being popular with Millennials who are looking at luxury transportation. No matter how good their cars are (and for the most part, they’re far better than they were when I was in high school), people of my generation, for the most part, have stayed away–preferring either Buicks (shockingly enough), Audis, and Lexuses. I’ve also seen an increasing number of well-heeled fellow twenty-somethings and thirty-somethings chasing after the usual BMW and Mercedes suspects. Well, I think Cadillac might have a winner with their new XT4. Continue reading Can Cadillac Connect with Millennials via their new XT4?

Cool and interesting cars that caught our eye either at shows or on the street.
This white Duesenberg Model J showed the new cars what class looks like at NYIAS 2018
Just when I thought some of the new cars had style, I walked downstairs and saw this glorious white Duesey in the classics. Aerodynamic efficiency and safety structure is all fine and good, but nothing today has style like the top-tier cars of the 1920’s and 30’s.
These days everyone has a Phantom or a Lambo. If you roll up in a big Duesenberg like this one, it’s game over. You win.

Ruby Red Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster at RM Auctions Amelia Island
Even among top competition, the Mercedes 300SL remains one of the best-looking cars out there. Its swooping lines are absolutely timeless, and I think it has aged beautifully. This example was surely one of the finest in the world, and it was sitting there for us, glistening in the Florida sun. Enjoy!

Alfa Romeo TZ Spotted on Amelia Island
We saw this little Alfa TZ cruise by on the road during the Concours Parade. Its beautiful design was penned by Zagato, and it’s one of the most iconic Italian sports cars of the 1960s. It’s amazing just how small the TZ is in person, though. When you’re used to seeing it in photos, you aren’t expecting it to be smaller than a Miata. I just love it!

Jaguar XJR-15 at Cars and Coffee Amelia Island
Following up the Mercedes CLK GTR from last week, here is yet another 90’s unicorn we saw this year at Amelia Island, a Jaguar XJR-15. One of just 53 produced, it is the road going version of the 24hrs of LeMans-winning XJR-9 racecar. I mean, just look at the interior, and how the seats are just molded right onto the carbon tub. It’s an extreme experience to be sure.
We’ve seen this car a few times before, it’s been a staple of the Amelia Island scene every time we’ve been, but this was the nicest setting I’ve been able to shoot it in. Enjoy!

1936 Lagonda LG45 at the Amelia Island Concours
With a top speed of around 100mph, this striking blue Lagonda was one of the fastest British cars of its day. It was so fast, in fact, that a Lagonda 4.5L won LeMans the year before this car was made. You can see the rest of the details on this car in the image below.
What really drew me to this car was its distinctive color combo and its awesome hood ornament. The color is almost like BMW’s Laguna Seca Blue, and the interior is chocolate leather with light wood trim. It’s a gorgeous combination! As for the hood ornament, it’s a native gentleman fighting a snake with a hatchet. Quite an epic scene to witness as you drive along.
Enjoy the gallery of this magnificent classic Brit!

Mercedes CLK GTR Spotted at the Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island
This was one of those HOLY SHIT moments. I go out for a test drive, come back, and there’s a literal unicorn sitting in the courtyard in front of the Ritz. I mean I had literally seen a McLaren F1 go by out on the road just a few minutes before, and what could possibly top that? A Mercedes CLK GTR is one of the few that could, and there it was!
This is only the second CLK GTR I’ve ever seen in person, and the only one actually in a public setting that had been driven in on the road. Just 25 CLK GTR road cars exist on our Earth, making it more than twice as rare as the mighty McLaren F1. It is such an insane machine, even in the company of other incredible cars it just trumps them.
For those unfamiliar with the Mercedes CLK GTR, it is quite literally a street-legal LeMans racing car. Back in the late 1990s carmakers had to build a small production run of street-legal versions of their racecars if they wanted to compete in the GT1 class at LeMans. Mercedes had the CLK GTR, McLaren had the F1, and Porsche had the 911 GT1. There were also a number of similar, more obscure GT1 homologations from Lotus, Nissan, Toyota, Lamborghini, and others.
The CLK GTR is powered by an AMG-built V12 producing somewhere in the neighborhood of 600hp, although this particular GTR appears to have had some extra work put into it so it may be even more.
It’s one thing to have a car that turn heads, it’s a totally different thing to have a car that will literally make people’s dreams come true when you roll up. This is surely the latter.

1983 Maserati Quattroporte III spotted in Jacksonville, FL

Sometimes, you should expect the unexpected. This time, Nick and I were just moments from our hotel. about to relax for a bit before a night of karting and general tomfoolery before Concours Saturday. As we turned off the main drag for the airport into our hotel parking lot, Nick grabbed my attention at the left-turn lane–it was an old Quattroporte. What we have here is a stunning example of Eighties excess, and the last hand-built Maserati sedan before they left the USA market (to return later). Enjoy the photos of this rarely-seen Italian Stallion. Continue reading 1983 Maserati Quattroporte III spotted in Jacksonville, FL
1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo-16 Up For Auction at Amelia Island
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
RM Sotheby’s had quite the smorgasbord of classic cars up for auction this year at Amelia Island. This 1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo-16 is a Holy Grail-type car for Eighties turbo addicts and Group B rally enthusiasts alike. Packing a 16-valve turbocharged four mounted right behind the seats, this little rally homologation special shared almost nothing with its more plebian brother save for some of the body panels. The final sale price was $156,800–well short of its projected $200K+ selling price. In any event, the new owner walked away with a true piece of history. Enjoy the photos. Porsche 959 Rally Car Spotted at Amelia Island
Coming out of the Amelia Island Concours on Saturday we found this leaving the driveway of the Ritz. A Porsche 959 Group B Rally car pulling out onto the public road. This is the sort of insanity you see all weekend, and it’s awesome!
